Christmas Blues?

So did you get what you wanted?

Ok- my wife has her birthday around Christmas and she got kind of spoiled. Loads of presents. Diamond Earrings, digital camera, clothing, etc.

Me- I got a leather jacket, a CD series (actually its' for both of us), and a bunch of books that are in transit.

Overall though it was a pretty nice holiday.

How did it go for you?

What are you plans for New Years?

Regarding presents, I'm rather satisfied. I got a pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses which I've wanted for some time now, plus the usual 2-3 CDs. Also, I've received quite a few money gifts from relatives (all university students in the family seem to do so...), so I seem to have amassed about 250 euros (seems like a hoard of treasure by my standards) despite going out and spending at least 15 euros each night.

For New Years, I've decided to host a New Years party at my house with about 20 of my old schoolmates from highschool. If half the things we want to do go as planned, it will be a party to remember.

Overall, this holiday might as well be the greatest I've had so far.

I got a set of surgical grade dissecting tools along with a 2uL pipet (to complement my 10, 100, 200 and 1000uL collection) for playing evil scientist. I also got a set of Henckel kitchen knives and a parental paid clothes shopping trip thru the Twin Cities.

The parents got one slave's labor worth of wallpaper stripping and cleaning the light fixtures throughout the house. Oh, and candy and a netflix subscription.

Oh how I love the holidays.

Well every year by this time i get some presents to myself, but this year with the baby coming i could only afford a Joy Division compilation. Then i got the usual, sweaters, shirts, socks, pants, cologne, after shave...

I also got a couple of books (Nietzsche and Saramago) and a bundle of DVDs, like Naked Lunch by Cronenberg.

had to swap one of the DVDs, in the end i got L'Auberge Espagnole, wich was really cool.

Bur what i raved the most was the gift from my wife, the Collector's edition of OldBoy !
Yes!Yes!

Meh, Christmas was alritey for me... Got myself a new mp3 player, the entire Lost season 1 series, and a whole lot of other crap like cds and clothes...

I got an mp3 player and a little bit of cash. I can't really think of anything special to buy, as I'm pretty cheap and don't really need anything in particular. I'll probably end up spending it on some good reference books of some kind.

For New Years I'll either go out with friends or just stay at home and watch the fireworks on TV, supposedly the best in the world.

Social Exchanges

Got myself a mixed set of ZBS products.
Spend Christmas early morning listening to third party catalogue offerings, vintage Firesign Theatre and Procter and Bergman.
Early a.m., furious wrapping the numerous tawdry gee gaws that fuel a sugared caffeinated 'family' tradition. Lots of wrapping paper to be tightly balled and flung in ritual barrages. Alliances as flexible as medieval Italy.

The ZBS 'Little Frieda Mystery' was in curious synchronicity with the Robertson Davies books on tape that I discovered in my local library, and have been listening to all through December. Connections: intersections and congruences, accidental and implied. This 'should not' be a surprise, unless one wants to play the part of a dramatic investigator, or a vapid conspiracy victim, the tragic queen of any stage.

Consider it a small example on how our entertainments shape our perceptions. Not that heavy metal 'axes' have direct correlation to chain-saw massacres or the statistics of unwed mothers. Except in the tightly choreographed head spaces of elected officials and their spouses 'on the make' for public notice, public 'intercourse'. The groomed and elaborately tailored psyches of talking heads will always be with us.

Fox News junkies or NPR addicts could weave their own cautionary tales if they truly envisioned the cycle of their codependency.
The seemingly voluntary inhalation of' chain pulling', 'button pushing' media gestates and generates a 'torqued' world view. Does one really want for the background music of their daily drama to be obscure AC DC CD's? Does one want the song of their personal spaces to be the drone of tabloid commentaries with a predestined social agenda?

No.

So I rush out and buy a multitude of tiny tawdry gifts and go forth to be ambushed by torrents of projectile gift wrapping.

Another seasonal tradition is my association of the social exchange of common cold viruses in this mixing of old and young. Yah, got my (first?) cold of the season. Am pondering the blessings of the copious nasal flow and the fascinating spray pattern of full bodied sneezes.

Happy Holidaze ...

Mine was kinda shite. Despite being the lowest paid member of my family, (other than my fifteen year old brother) I managed to have much less spent on me than I spent on others.

Damned relatives. Short arms, deep pockets.

Not to sound ungrateful, 'twas nice to have a week or so off work to see everyone, but still ...

I'm sure you'll appreciate this, so i uploaded a photo. My dad actually wrapped up an old rusty chainsaw he found somewhere, wrote my name on it, and put it under the tree. You can imagine the euphoria i felt after i picked it up (and said "groovy", of course). It's really heavy.

Can't wait to use it.

That was so damn predictable, but I still had to laugh.

I got lots of dvds: the first season of Twin Peaks, a collection of Hitchcock movies and The Gold Rush (Chaplin's best flick, IMO).

I also got Wowee Zowee, an old Pavement cd which I once had, but somehow lost.

A new pillow too (a really good one).

And lots of cash (which I spent on comics).
