I'm gonna third this, Alpha Centauri truly deserves at least a pretty decent remake. It is, after all, the chronological sequel of the Civ games, basically what happens after you win a Civ game expands into Alpha Centauri, so maybe that would be good material for a well-developed remake.
More unlikely and adventurous, they could even give Alpha Centauri a remake as an expansion of Civ V, so the players could continue a Civ game in Alpha Centauri.
