Classic Fallout weapons, work in progress

Nice to hear. :)

I also worked a bit more on the Combat Shotgun yesterday. But I have a question to people who maybe know a bit more about weapons than me... It is because of this:

It seems like it doesn't make much sense on this position. Should it stay there or should I remove it? Or other ideas?

For the magazine I took a look at the FAMAS magazine because I thought it looks identically..

Well, it looks kinda off. I say remove it, you don't need to make it 100% identical.

I believe it still needs a little more detail, but from what we have to work with, it’s not bad if I do say so myself.

@Lexx, I have no idea what that side detail is on the base, I can make out a lil bit of a plate, but I'm not to sure.

Yeh, I like it so far. But I think, it needs a little bit more brown or so. :)

Btw. I saw that you have send me only one dds file. But there is also needed a *_g.dds and *_n.dds, as far as I know. I will test it with this file only, but I don't know if it will work out good.

/Edit: Ok, the first problems. I putted it in the nif file but didn't adjusted it.. thats why my player holds the gun wrong. But take a look at the textures...

Heh, in FPP it looks like that big gun from one of the Alien sequel (I think it was the second one) :D

But I think it's a bit too small. Maybe you should make some screenshots without the PA?

BTW, this can be a good base for the plasma and laser rifles like in the originals.

Ok, fixed the issue above. I just saved it as *.obj file again. But now the other two textures, I named above, are missing:

Yeh, I thougt the same. If you look at the original pictures you see, that the plasma rifle is also based on the same base as the flamer.

The laser rifle is based on the sniper rifle and there is already a mod that brings it back and looks very good. ;)

/Edit: Ok, next progress... now it isn't totally black, but still not the texture. Also there is a hole in the modell everytime I "striptify" the node in NifSkope...

Man, making new weapons for Fallout 3 is a pain in the arse.

I needed hours to tweak this to this stage. It was needed to adjust the gun, to fit the pose better, then it was not possible to find a good reloading animation.. that means, I found a good animation, but - only god knows why - it is only available for one-shoot rifles and not for automatic rifles.

At least the burst fire works quite good now, I think. I also added the original sound already and in the actual stage it feels pretty good. Only the reloading animation thing is going on my nerves...

CrazyAce try making fuel tanks in dark brown/red

yea I agree, but for now we can wait on tweaking the textures until we figure how to get the materials out of max to a texture map. The technique I used doesn’t seem to work... :seriouslyno:

Ok, the problems with the holes in the modell I posted a few posts above is fixed now. I just saved the obj with Geometry: Polygons and that's it...

Now I just need to find out how to save it correctly with textures on it...

A lil bit of an improvement from the previous version, this one has 20 materials mapped to it.

Good improvement, I particularly like the rust on the... whatever those white things are.

Some more variation the 'body' of the weapon would serve it well as it still looks a bit Quake 2-ish. More could also be done with the various handles, they don't look particularly aged at all.

Also, where the hose from the canisters meets the body... but that looks more like an issue with the mesh than your textures.
Edit: Looking at the blank model again, it appears that there is an "indent" the hose is going into that I am missing. That seems to be your biggest hurdle. The texture on the body seems to be making the model look like a flat box. More needs to be done to make the bits that stand out, well, stand out.

I like it so far. :) The problem is, we need to test this ingame too because there it mostly looks a bit different.
I agree on the body part and the handles. They need to be worked out a bit more but hey, this is just a wip and if the uv map is there, it isn't that much of a problem to work on it. :)

Easy as pie to change and add to, but as stated we are having the issue on applying the texture map...

I agree that the body does look a little to boxy and the front handles will need a little more detail added as it just looks to plain. Now the back handle I'm not going to touch, but that connector peice at the end will also need a littl emore detail.

You need to feel it ingame. It ROXX. :P

I think, I will try to create a new reloading sound too...

That's some awesome recreations you have made there Lexx! I can't wait to try out the finished package.

The texturing is looking good too!

Because I like to tease people. :P

Don't look at the texture.
