Climate changes

Uhm, why the hell not? I always enjoyed the notion of radioactive snowfall...:) Although the snow didn't do shit if FT, , it was kind of a nice change.
Shh don't give them ideas, or the next thing you know all the dialogue budget will be spent on modelling realistic falling snow flakes that glow in the dark. :)

I suppose it depends on where the game is set, but even if you travel from the desert to snowfields, adding clothing would just add another layer of complexity that they'd have to figure in. I've always presumed that in all rpgs clothing was automatically changed depending on the environment and cleanliness just as the player's toiletry needs are handled off screen.

Thank god for that,
Let's face it folks weather has been a subject that the makers of Fallout have been tinkering around with since the very start, and if they were to actually incorperate it into a new Fallout (fingers crossed) it would be a very acceptable feature, so what if changing my clothes for climate is a itch in the ass, you character would only have to do it during cold months and warm months, thats what....twice a year? or when you travel to an area with warmer climate, sure it snows really really hard and your character must put on a molerat parka but that doesn't mean you have to take it off again right after the snow storm! hell let it stay on for another couple of months hell its not that warm, and besides if you are worried about warmer areas on the map, rest assured its winter! even the desert can cool down once and awhile.

Deserts tend to get cooler more often than once in awhile, usually every night. This would result in a lot more fashion styling than twice a year. Also remember that in-game time often doesn't represent actual time.

Besides that, weather changes could be nice, but maybe only for some flavour.

Yeah, still the idea of season-specific quests and creatures would still be, in my mind, really sweet... I mean Fallout mutant sasquatches? I don't know about the nights though, usually there not that cold during summer months, your talking about natural deserts here, Fallout made deserts are different.

Hmmm, maybe for a random encounter.

Oh, and for the deserts, well I'm not a master on the subject but I think it has something to do with clouds or the lack of them.

oh defianatly wouldn't have it any other way, and yeah is can get pretty cold at nights regardless of what kind of desert it is, but still im sure its not hypothermia cold

yeah than why did you post?

Irony at its finest, given your recent posts on this forum.

Look I was a little misguided because LACK OF FALLOUT, not only that but I actually lost my Fallout 1 *sniff*

Then if that is your reason, do not make any more topics until you have again played said game. After all, that is the only logical solution to that problem you explained.

and when I say ultra-realism, I mean it's ultra-realistic because you are not judged by class, but of actions, u know kinda like REAL life?

Refresh my memory, who was the utter moron that came up with the idea that Fallout should have classes?

and as for the setting, it's pretty realistic keeping in mind that it's post-apocalyptic, desert, everyone is dead or dying...yeah that sounds pretty realistic for a place THAT HAD THE HELL NUKED OUT OF IT.

So you know what? if you don't like it don't bother posting.

No, if YOU want to continue posting, I had suggest that you get a clue of what Fallout's setting is or go back to the Counter-Strike forums.

Fallout's universe is not about realism or what really would happen after a nuclear war. Maybe it was the design of Fallout 2 and the crappy easter eggs that might have you fooled, but you really have to play the first game to get an idea of Fallout's setting before Feargus and MCA skullfucked it. Then we get to what is specific for Fallout's weather patterns, which are a bit more outlandish than the rather tame ones you mention. You have radioactive twisters, miles wide, according to Cassidy. Imagine what a tornado, average size, would be like if it touched into one of the glowing pools.

Just think, most of this topic goes out of the window when you get Power Armor. Good topic, but for wholly the wrong reasons. You have to have something to make it add depth to the gameplay, not be The Fallsims: Outdoor Fashion Show.

Seasons and the effects they might have upon the land are a much better idea, perhaps you might even have to go around a few squares on the world map due to snow melt flooding through a radioactive area. Or, during the summer, a certain area has a massive ant infestation like THEM! Or during the spring, new radioactive growth prevents movement in a certain area (or perhaps the ants are having an early harvest), as could extreme cold be used for a high-altitude pass in the winter so that only someone in power armor could get through.

Clothing is, at an essence, a very superficial item when the world design is in question. That should be the last thing of note, since it really doesn't add much to the game depth.

Of course, this still assumes that the world still has seasons as we know them. ;)

As I mentioned in the start of this post that the weather problem would be an issue that NEW players would have to face, I don't know how you play but usually you receive power armour later on in the game. Then again this weather situation would go deeper than just clothing.

As for your "extreme" weather like "tornadoes miles wide" and other assortments of instant killers, I meant have weather as a feature, not a rampant killer that the character must always look at his pipboy to avoid certain squares. I want to have a large aspect of realism, not COMPLETE realism, if I wanted that I would make a thread about contracting STD's from hookers or radiation giving you tumors.

As I have said before that I was wrong, and now I agree with you, and you STILL persecute me for it. Bad form.

The weather and climate issue wouldn't signficantly make the game any deeper, but it would add a feature to the essence of the game I know to you it would seem like just a detail, but honestly I ask you, do you want to play a 60 hr game and just see...what desert for the entire thing? Sorry thats been done over the past four games.

Clothing is, at an essence, a very superficial item when the world design is in question. That should be the last thing of note, since it really doesn't add much to the game depth.

if clothing is such a superficial item, than why put in T-51B? not to mention add huge information about it, how to harden it and whatnot? You may not realise it but armour, T-51B especially is a Fallout mascot, and icon, seeing is how they put it and its successors on the boxes of ALL the games (except one in particular) armour is vital, and it symbolizes many things in the game and has more uses than just protection, and isn't really "superficial" by any means.

Then we get to what is specific for Fallout's weather patterns, which are a bit more outlandish than the rather tame ones you mention. You have radioactive twisters, miles wide, according to Cassidy. Imagine what a tornado, average size, would be like if it touched into one of the glowing pools.

I'd expect the new Fallout game's actual radical climate to have calmed down to a certain degree by now, I mean the game (if its a sequel) would take place long after the war ended, hell it was long after the war ended in Fallout 2, so what would you expect? by then all the "green pools" would have soaked into the earth years ago, which is probably why you don't see them very often in both 1 and 2.

And if Fallout really happened we would all be swimming right now.

Hey Dove! The link from that pic isn't working... it might just be becuase i'm using explorer and its not opening it... but i just kept clicking and nothing happens...

(Just kidding, i'm using Opera)

But anyway... I've always wanted to see some weather in fallout.

I just want to walk into a town and see the acid rain falling down, i dont really care how it effects the character or the world, i just think it would be a cool aspect to add ot the environment.
