Contest, previews and screenshots

WorstUsernameEver

But best title ever!
A new demo of New Vegas shown at Tokyo Game Show 2010 has sparked a little interest in the press.

IGN apparently was delighted with just punching people in the face even if they did not understand the japanese dialogue:

I realize I haven't given you any new information about Fallout: New Vegas, no thanks to the language barrier. I don't know where I was, who I met or what the point of the Japanese demo was. But I can tell you this. Fallout: New Vegas feels comfortingly similar to its predecessor. Even with the story, context and dialogue stripped away, New Vegas pulled me back in to the world of the Wasteland, even if it was just to beat everyone senseless for a few minutes.

GAME Watch... well, being in japanese I'm not sure what they think about the game, but there are a couple of new screenshots and some higher resolutions shots we've already seen in some magazine previews.

To conclude, Planet Fallout is hosting a contest with some NCR shirts as a prize. Unfortunately it's open to US/Canada citizens only.

The gun in the fire gecko (?) screenshot looks like out of some Fallout 3 mod to me. Most unfallouty gun so far, in my opinion.

Game is really looking ugly from a technical standpoint...

I'd argue that with more time they could have at least have reworked some ugly models, optimized the engine more and introduced dynamic lighting but.. you're right, Gamebryo (or at least, Bethsoft's Gamebryo) just looks bad in 2010. I honestly don't care that much though I can't help but be curious about how New Vegas would have looked on the Onyx engine (Obsidian's proprietary engine, the one used for Dungeon Siege III).

Looks like an M4 with a scope on it, and I've been iffy about the M4 since the very first screens were released. If it based more on the AR-16, then that may be alright. But not an M4.

If my knowledge of guns is correct (I have a subscription to Guns & Ammo), that right there is a K-YOTE Varmint Rifle.

I AM CONFUSED.
What's it based on specifically? What model and what year was it first produced?

Check the web....

Custom gun fabricator, introduced in 2009 for US$3700.

Available is 0.17, 0.204 ruger and > 0.223 <

How is it too modern? It's alright for old weapons like the hunting rifle or the old winchester shotgun, or futuristic weapons like the plasma rifle. Why can't there be room for some current-era weaponry?

.. too modern.. says a man from year 2010 !
TOO MODERN FOR A FALLOUT GAME. If I wanted that, I'd play CoD4

It's not like this is the first Fallout game with somewhat-modern guns.
Except I find that this is more than somewhat-modern. It looks way too high tech to be in a Fallout game. The energy weapons are part of the retro-futurism. This gun is normal-futurism. All I'm saying is that I agree with Lexx that it is the least-fallouty gun there.

Not making a comment on the quality of the game itself, but amid all the other disparate/anomalous things that are in NV, the authenticity of the guns seems like a pretty trivial issue to me.
