THE Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin, is dead.

He was killed in a freak accident in Cairns, police sources said.

It is understood he was killed by a stingray barb that went through his chest.

He was swimming off the Low Isles at Port Douglas filming an underwater documentary and that's when it occured.

Ambulance officers confirmed they attended a reef fatality this morning at Batt Reef off Port Douglas.

His body is being flown to Cairns.

A Tourism Queensland spokeswoman today said the death was shocking and paid tribute to Irwin's "enormous contribution" to his adopted state.

Louise Yates said it was impossible to quantify how much Mr Irwin had meant to the Queensland tourism industry.

"I don't think we could even estimate how much he brought us through his personality and his profile and his enthusiasm about Queensland," she said.

Crikey I didnt see that one coming. He did alot of great things He will be sadly missed.

The worst part he has a little 5 year old girl and it was fathers day yesterday in Aus.
 
Yeah I am devastated, well not really, but it did come as a surprise. I just visited his zoo a few weeks back!!
 
He was a bit of a dick and made the americans mock us more, but he did do some great things with his life and he will not be forgotten.

Pftt who cares about the yankees, it was great that we had a figure that had some character. The americans can hardly talk of any real figureheads that had as much character as this guy did.

He also had a 3 year old son, I think. And appearantly they've added a video, documenting this accident. I'm not watching it, though.

Dayum. I just read about him on Wikipedia yesterday and thought "Why isn't he dead yet?".
 
From what I have heard he took a direct hit to the heart.

Yeah I bet nobody thought a sting ray would have killed him. Maybe a Koala but not a damm sting ray,

You all do know that he is the third person to die in AUS from a sting ray.
 
Yeah, I just heard that he was the 3rd person to die from a stingray in Australia. It definitely would have been more fitting for him to be mauled by a croc, but whatever...

Apparently these things only ever attack when provoked, so he was probably just fucking around with it and copped it in the heart.

Kudos to the stingray on the heart shot! FATALITY!!
 
Did anyone else think about that special encounter in Fallout Tactics, the dude chasing the lizard, as soon as they heard this? :roll: That was a parody of Steve.

I think you misunderstood. That link has a video of a professor who "explains stingray behaviour and how the tragic death of Steve Irwin may have occurred." I think it's way too soon for that video to be available....if ever.
 
that sucks.... I mean we all knew that his 'freak accidental' death was coming soon but a fucking stingray? Thats like a buzzard dying of food poisoning....
 
Now I am expecting to see some "conspiracy" theorist to come out and say it was Al Qaeda that mind controlled a stingray to attack a famous person to shock and possibly terrorise the known world.

Or something along those lines anyway.
