CS for Fallout 3?

First time out of the vault
I finally got an account here after lurking for a bit, so I'm not going to go into much about my opinion on Bethsoft, as, well, it's been said.

One thing that might be agreed on, however, is that their inclusion of a CS (construction set) for at least Morrowind and Oblivion has made those games infinitely better, with the help of an extremely dedicated and hardworking mod community - I know, for instance, that my Oblivion game is now almost completely unrecognizable as the somewhat unfinished game that was released a few years back.

My question to you, as longtime fans of Fallout, is this: Do you think a CS will significantly improve the quality of the game released by Bethsoft, and do you think there's enough of a modding community among you to release some compelling conent?

I want to see your answers before posting my opinion on this.

The quality of Bethesda's game is the quality of Bethesda's game. You're paying for the game, not the CS, so the CS doesn't change anything about the quality of the game release by Bethesda. You're asking the wrong question, I think.

But yes, we will be trying to fix the game and yes, there will be enough interest to do so.

Sorry, that was bad phrasing - it's an indirect and dependent improvement, if any - the addition of a CS to the game would open those pathways to a more polished and true experience.

Yes.

Bethesda doesn't have the manpower required to make the games they really want. They want these huge games with lots of detail. inevitably they don't do it very well because they have a deadline by which their game must be released or they face: 1 an older looking game that the fanboys will not shit their pants over and will say it sucks 2 a release date far latter thus aggravating fans.

By adding the construction set it allows the moding community to fix their bugs and blunders and allows for the community of thousands of unpaid volunteers to give the game the expanse it was intended to have.

I definitely want a CS included with the game. I would love to work on mods for Fallout 3.

With that being said, my fear is the engine (especially combat) may not be 'robust' enough. At the very least I hope it is fun, because if it is unbalanced, weak, and tedious to play I don't know if any amount of modding can surmount that level of design degridation. Again, I still hold out hope (though I couldn't stand Morrowind's combat  )

I enjoy modding for Arcanum. I could live off that game for many more years while we sit through this dry spell of hardcore western cRPGs. Except the combat continues to annoy and frustrate me. I much prefer Fallout's combat on the one end of the spectrum and (dare I say?) Baldur's Gates' on the other. The former knew it was turn based, and the latter knew it was real time w/ pause. And they both worked well for what they were IMHO.

My fear is Fallout 3 combat will go the way of Arcanum/Morrowind, in that the fundamentals of the engine will be too far gone to remedy with modding...

Agree 100%.

What ticks me off about every discussion about a CS is that people see it in the wrong way. I had this discussion on a NMN board where i said that the game sucked big time. The reactions i got were something like this : 'How can you be disappointed ? You can make your own campaign you know.'

Moral here is that when i pay money to buy a game, i expect it to be good on it's own. I don't expect the mod community (or myself) to do their job, to create the game. The moding community is there to expand upon the game not to create it.

Admittedly, the only way I will consider buying Fallout 3 is if they release a construction set for the game. Basically, I only want to play the game after it's been fixed.

This means heavy modification of Super Mutants, heavy modification of the bastardization of ghouls, removal of exploding nuclear cars, modification/removal of a number of weapons (I'm looking at you Fat Boy, Mesmertron and Cryolator) and really a huge number of other things. There is just so much that needs fixing.

I agree with everyone wanting a CS. Even if combat can't be fixed, I want the dialogue and story to be the top notch Fallout writing style we all love. The writing is the most important part to me.
