Apparently, the source code for the engine and modding tools of Thief 1/2 and System Shock 2 has been found on a second-hand bought HDD. Not sure how much it interests frequent visitors of NMA, but this is incredible news to fans of those games for all the new modding possibilities it offers, chief of which are ports to modern operating systems (especially critical in the case of SS2). Of course, Eidos has yet to make any statement regarding this, so there may be legal issues concerning this soon. http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=134091
Damn. I'd love to see a proper source port of the Dark Engine, complete with all the benefits it'd provide. Just look at how it's kept the Doom community going all these years. Nobody's benefiting from Eidos sitting on that code, including themselves.
Someone make a port for System Shock 2 that gets it working fine under Modern OSs. NOW! Heh, just imagine finding Fallout 2's source code in an old disk of a computer, owned by an old crone living with her cats.
