DC BoS vs. 'General Bos' (informative)

It is not the Brotherhoods job to help anyone in the wasteland. Their job is to collect, and sit on technology. They help people out willingly.

Per Maxson in FALLOUT 1 , he says there number one priority is to survive, make guns #2.

So if there survival in the CW was dependent on the local populace ( which to my knowledge is never mentioned other than recruits) then they would do something about it. But Lyons does list his own reasoning and some of it makes sense.

With time certain directives could get warped and changed. I don't really think they're survival was dependant on the local populace of DC. Everyone seems to either be a low level raider, a slaver who would know better than to shoot at a BoS, or just some diseased wastelander. I'd argue that the supermutant threat would have further urged the BoS to start helping out the capital wasteland population, although. I just don't see there being any real reason why they'd want to help people besides their own kindness.

I agree. I could formulate many "possible" or plausible reasons why but that would just be my apologetics. The truth is Beth just threw it in there with no rhyme or reason.

I guess they're just trying so save their own arses, after all, even if they've got great firepower and protection, they're a bunch of people wanting their order to survive...

The problem is is that people say the Brotherhood doesn't care.

This is not true. We have seen them do beneficial things for humanity.

If they "didn't" care would they have sent to Paladins to the Cathedral/Mariposa when the Vault Dweller proved the possible threat of the Master and the Unity?

Maybe I remember it wrong, but the BOS accepts to send paladins to Mariposa only after the VD convinces them that the Super Mutants were bad for them too. Initially they don't care.

Would they have made any attempt to fight the Enclave at all in FO2? Since most BoS members are pure strain humans the FEV virus engineered by the Enclave wouldn't have effected them. They could probably had cared less.

Now this is wrong for sure. They wanted to fight the Enclave because they realized they were hostile AND more technologically advanced.

Also the modified FEV would have killed any non-inoculated humans, not just those exposed to radiation.
