Death of a computer + Building one

That is obvious that ECS sucks for oc
I agree that sempron differs from Venice or AM2, i just wanted to express that

yes amd usually overclocks well
His wishlist would probably make a good and stable platform with ECS changed to Gigabyte or Asus

Alright godammit. I had a few other mtherboards picked out, and I guess I'll be going with this one. It's a gigabyte GA-K8N Pro-SLI with SLI capability (in the name, lawl) and no onboard video. I was leaning towards it because it seems to have

I was fearful that the ECS board would be the weak link, but christ I was trying to keep some sort of budget here. Ah well. I'm selling my old parts to my sister and getting some graduation money, so that should help out a bit. Still, all of this is far more expensive than everything I bought for my computer a few years ago- I ws expecting to spend the same amount of money (except for the graphics card- my last one was $130).

EDIT: and the updated list

(do keep in mind that the Sempron is a budget CPU & isn't optimal for power gaming)

Now I don't know much about htis... but the memory you have on your wish list is DDR2 and 240 pin.. while your mother board is 184 pin DDR... is that okay? I thought they had to match when i got mine.

Yep, it does. Also, getting DDR2 for an AMD is pretty damned useless. And I'd really skip the money you're spending on the RAM for a better CPU, say a Venice 3200+. That memory really won't make the difference, the CPU will.

Haha, whoops. That could have been an extremely expensive mistake.

I swapped the 3000+ sempron for a 3500+ venice, and ditched the expensive 1gb of memory for one about thirty bucks cheaper that will actually fit the motherboard.

I think it costs exactly the same as it did before.

Haha, no. I just changed the motherboard because you guys suggested it, and forgot to check the new one with the rest of my components.

Also, my dad doesn't know the first thing about computers. I assume that was a joke though 8)

M-m-mega bump.

I built the computer a few days ago and it's running perfectly. Windows boots up so quickly I almost cried once.

True story.

Anyway, thanks SuAside and the rest of the people that gave me advice. You guys rock.
