Death Race 3000 remake?

I love the original movie, I hope they make the new one cool, but keeps that 70's-feeling - like Tarantino's Death Proof.

Also, may the makers burn in hell if they change that points system!

I've never seen this movie, but I've read about it.

The thing that strikes me funny is some of these remakes just seem to miss the point of why original films are classics. Alot of these old exploitation movies are watched for their faults, to be mocked or enjoyed as ludicrous and comedic.

Odds are this will be one of those remakes that tries to alter the plot until it can be taken somewhat seriously, and try and sell it as a serious movie.

I distinctly recall the scene were Frankenstein removes his facemask and says, "What did you expect, another pretty face?"

The original Death Race (2000, wtf 3000?) had a shitload of heart. It's always tough to remake films that are built on heart rather than an excellent script or excellent effects for the time.

Death Race is typically the kind of classic that survived on heart. Almost impossible to remake, let alone by a moron like Paul Anderson (though I liked Soldier)

Anderson is pretty weak director, however I did enjoy both Soldier and Event Horizon. He seems to have a good grasp at artistic direction, but is utterly clueless in every other aspect that counts imo. All his films have looked great, but suffered from appalling dialogue, poor acting, and bad cutting etc.

He also seems to borrow heavily from other directors/films. Take that little girl in RE:2 - I can't recall her name, so I will just call her 'Newt' ... I think you can already see where that's going, homage's are fine - but her entire character was a 1:1 copy. Pretty arrogant in my opinion.

Can't say I have high hopes for this at all. Still, maybe Carmageddon will rise from the ashes to cash in (though that will probably suck too!) :P.
