Desslock answers Fallout 3 questions

Makagulfazel, we do not encourage such things here. One strike, and no more violent plans for Fallout 3 developers.

It was a joke, but okay. Like 90% of my posts are jokes, I thought someone sent out the memo.

Yes, definitely, and doing so will offer tactical advantages, since it allows your character to make a "perception" roll, which will give you additional information.

And Awareness gives a bonus to this roll! Wooo! It's the best perk once again!

Does it matter, though? The TF movie is still a turd (haven't seen it, just going off of what I've read), even though they supposedly used the transforming sound. Judging by your avatar, this should be a topic near and dear to you. :P

Wrong! The Transformers movie was amazazing.

About that combat window opening and closing sound...

I remember a developer talking about it when saying there are different things that people remembered and what stood out in Fallout, and he said the thing that stuck in his head was that sound. Kinda random, but yeah..

You must have seen a completely different movie than I did, because the movie I saw was utter crap...

The Transformers movie sucked, big time!

Yet Todd showed them weapon erosion and nuclear catapults.

<sarcasm>I'm sooo looking forward to weapon erosion and creation. I can't wait to have my inventory stacked full of different gun bits and pieces. It's going to be really exciting putting them onto the <s>magic item creator</s> engineering workbench to see how many different <s>magic items</s> guns I can create. I think the most exciting part of the game is going to be searching for random <s>magic item components</s> gun bits. </sarcasm>

If you want to discuss the Transformers movie, take it to General Discussion. Keep this thread on-topic.

Sorry about that. Will do in future. :)

Indeed it was! I was/still a fan of the original cart series as a kid. It kicked serious ass. Job well done.

Edit:Sorry posted before I saw the note to move the TF discussion to the general thread.

P.S. Does anybody else find it hypocritical that we are apparently bad people for 'poopooing' F3 based on how little we know while it's perfectly fine for these toolgazine writers to mess themselves over it based on how little they know?

Well, they've actually seen the game for about an hour, we didn't. But yeah lots of things in these previews were just...wrong. :? I guess most of previewers were not "real Fallout fans", they just liked the setting, so they fail to see why Fallout 3 being a FPS is wrong.

OT, but I'm a long time lurker and lately have been overcome with the bitterness on how the mass gaming media are talking about Fallout 3. They're saying it's in good loyal hands because Beth are Fallout fans, and they seem to be staying retro, but they seem to be rabbiting on about something they have no real concept of (like I guess most journalists do). It just pisses me off that all the big games reviewers basically want to see an Oblivion with guns and mutants and when they see nice screenies they say anything to make it sound good.

My bad for bringing up the TF movie. I was only comparing nostalgic sounds.

I know it's definitely always stuck in my head, years later. When I read a post describing a "beeping" when combat began, I could instantly recall the exact sound.

Heck, I can still hum a few of Fallout's more memorable tunes right off the top of my head. That game was great in so many ways. The music fit the atmosphere perfectly...dare I say it was immersive without being in first-person.

I always think of rats and ants when I hear that noise.

Unillenium, what are you talking about?

exactly.

The most easily recalled memories that I have of that combat starting/ending noise in Fallout are in the two beginning areas of the games:

the Temple of Trials, and the rat cave outside of v13..

I'm not exactly sure why, since I've spent much more time in the rest of the areas of the games, but I think it has something to do with the quasi-apprehensive feeling that I always got when I started a new character and took those first couple of steps into the game..

No other games have ever made me "feel" that way.

Unfortunately, I think that the crew at Bethesda will record a new sound when they find out thru their spy network that real fallout fans have meaningful memories associated with it..

Robur has my respect now (Whoever he may be). It's to hear more than just (ZOMGGGG Game of the Year already!) and actually here how it compares to the original Fallouts and what they actually saw.

The strange emphasis on showcasing combat scares me, though maybe that was just to better explain VATS?
