disappointed with the main quest (ending spoilers)

How\when do they destroy the wasteland ? Their goal is to convert people, not to kill them.

They're sterile, and they are seen killing Vault residents.

They would have eventually killed/converted everything, then died.

The master would have probably absorbed everything and turned into a giant blob monster too.
 
The master wouldn't have absorbed everyone. His goal was to save humanity, not destroy it. And the mutants scientist would have kept working on a cure to sterility. (which they did, but their labs got destroyed several times)

They never managed to cure supermutant sterility, and the master tended to absorb any failed mutants, which likely would have been quite a lot if they turned all the humans on the west coast into mutants.

The master was admittedly 'not that bad' deep down, but he was still a giant pink blob monster who casually ate people.
 
He absorbed beings at the beginning, but there is nothing to implie that he kept absorbing beings after he started the unity project.

As I understand it, he already took up a fair amount of area in the vault (all the goop in the walls and shit).

He ate the 'failures', which surely must still occur with particularly radiated people, which are plentiful in the wasteland.

And I'd bet he'd eat dead supermutants, if they died of old age.
