Divine Divinity & Kult Heretic Kingdoms

REHfan

First time out of the vault
Did a search for these and didn't come up with too many results. What's the general concensus on Divine Divinty? Is it worth the 5-15 bucks it can now be bought for?

Anyone play Kult Heretic Kingdoms yet?

I played Divine Divinity for about 20 minutes, sealed it back up and returned it to Walmart. So take that as you will.

Mohrg

I enjoyed Divine Divinity. It has gameplay that is very similar to Diablo but with a fairly interesting story. I've yet to play through it again but it was certainly worth it for the first play through.

It's one of those that manages to keep your attention during the most part of gameplay - because you really want to see what the high level spells do- but that you never get to finish, because you couldn't care less about the story.

I have to admit that I thought it was quite entertaining. It did remind me a lot of diablo (which I didn't like), but the quests and the storyline in Divine Divinity are a lot better than in diablo. It also reminded me a bit of ultima 7, one of my favourite games.

I'd say that it's worth 5-15 bucks, but you may want to try it first.

yay! at least someone see's my opinions!

And ratty... how can you call diablo II fun? At least divine divinity TRIED to have a story... Diablo 2 = no fun when there's no reason to do anything.

Thanks all. I went ahead and got Spellforce today instead of Divine Divinity. BUT after playing it through part of the tutorial I think I might try and take it back and swap.

The tutorial of Spellforce starts with some of the worst voice acting I have ever heard (sure way to turn me off).

Spellforce does have a somewhat neat idea with switching from 3rd person to iso-view (merely a frill, but a fun one). I'll reserve further judgement until I play some more except in one area:

I AM SO SICK OF 3D!!! All of the 3-D games I have played don't have very good visuals (Sacred being one of the better ones--mainly because I could pan out so far that the images tightened up to look nearly like decent 2-D graphics). I just don't get the thrill of polygon people, lines that are supposed to be straight being curved, and the ability to see enemies a mile away (how suspenseful!).

I especially love polygon people, I just loooove all of the square faced (if they have a face at all) people in these 3-D games.

Anyway, I'll play Spellforce for a bit more and if it doesn't get any better I'll trade for Divinity if the store will let me :? .

as a former diablo 2 player i can say this: diablo 2 is fun while it lasts and playing on battle.net where your in a game restricted to low level non-hacked players, its fun going round in a team :) i tried divine divinity and i think it sucked. the graphics were too messy to make it playable imo (its got to be playable if you want it to be fun)

Fun of Diablo comes from online play. It's one of those addictive games you can't stop playing even though you know playing them makes you stupid.

O i know all about that bloody online play. It stole about 3 summers of my life :-D. I will say that its addicting, but I can't say that its fun. I played the game, not because I was enjoying it, but because I wanted to have the coolest items and the strongest character. Sigh, the game was about being cooler than all the other characters.

I'll leave it at this. Neither game is a great game. Divine Divinity has the better single player mode and more coherent quests and a broader game world. Diablo 2 is more addictive and has a better, broader skill system. Sigh, I guess I agree with you ratty, I just am very bitter about Diablo 2 since I came to the realizatino that I spent so amny hours of my life in a game that really had no coherent point to it.

Ditto.

I thought Diablo 2 was pretty boring. It was, in spite of Blizzard's claims to the contrary, made for multiplayer which I don't do very often, so basically another waste of money for me.

Story != fun. Look at Final Fantasy...

Okay, I feel the wrath of a thousand fanboys coming my direction. :runs away:

Diablo 2 May have been lacking a point, but Tyrial is still one of the coolest creations in the history of Everything.

It's Tyrael, not "Tyrial".

I don't know, I've found most of the final fantasies to be enjoyable... why don't you find them fun? I enjoy the magic systems and the minigames tend to be rather addictive.

The best thing about Divine Divinity, by the way, is that it's made by Belgians.

It DOES explain its poor production values, ugly graphics, tedious gameplay, stupid name and over all lack of quality.

Initially I had thought it was of Dutch origin. Glad thats been cleared up.
