Do you believe in ghosts?

The Vault Dweller

always looking for water.
So...do you? Do you think their real or only crazy people see them? Do you think they exist spiritually or just exist in a physical realm current science cant explain?

Here is an interesting link to get you started:

Also in addition to opinions try to tell some stories. True or not this really makes these threads long and detailed. Here mine:

Ya I believe it. Sure it doesnt obey science's laws, but I blame that on a lack of understanding.

My step-Dad was working in a hospital as an RN when he noticed a bunch of other staff crowded in front of a room. Apparently their was an old lady in the room who was going to pass sometime that day (she was just too old) and the staff would just check up on her as she slowly passed in a comatose state. However at one point the lights went off in the room. When a staff member went to investigate they found a white glow hovering in the room near the bed of the dying woman. Its shape was abotu that of a human being. No one went in the room so they just all crowded around staring in. My step-Dad offered to go in (hoping to impress them) and went inside. Sure enough it was there...hovering. He thought they were joking so he suddenly found himself very scared. He took a few nervous steps toward the bed when the "spirit" moved in his direction. He ran out the door. The avoided the room and the next day it was gone. The woman had died overnight. Keep in mind she was old and had been sick currently so it was her time. No one thought the ghost "killed" her so much as it was somehow there with her.

I am a ghost, so I suppose I have to belive in them. Wooooooo!

I've yet to see proof, and some second-hand tale is not proof to anyone of sound mind.

Heh. I haven't heard that song in a long time.

Yes, I believe in ghosts.

And aliens.

And the Loch Ness monster.

Oh come on...

I dont have any hard evidence. I dont even know if my step-Dad's story is true. The fact of the matter is I was just trying to start a meaningful discussion and/or have people exchange weird stories, but no you just have to turn it into a spam thread of semi-witty one-liners.

I mean jeez this place is populated with enough wild thinkers and drug addicts to fill book of storys. Hasnt anyone seen anything vaguely paranormal?

:x ,

Yeah. I saw a popcorn that was shaped similar to Elvis' head.

Then I shrugged and ate the popcorn.

I don't believe in ghosts and have not seen one, although I have seen a doco about the influence of magnetic fields on the human mind and how this can make people feel a 'presence' which can give that impression. But I have heard a paranormal true story from a trusted friend.

He was running home trying to beat the rain because of the huge storm that was forming. He was distracted for a couple of seconds by a crackling noise and turned to see a ball of plasma floating a few metres above the ground. A strong wind was blowing out of the reddish sphere and there were tiny bolts of lighting crackling through it. He had no idea what it was and ran wide around it and never looked back, scared by the strange phenomenon.

So I did a little bit of research and found out that it was an example of ball lightning, but it seems pretty para-normal to me, as I hadn't heard an example of it myself. I think I may have foolishly stood well back and observed the thing myself for a longer period of time but hey, I wasn't there and my friend is still alive to tell the tale.

Well, the Vault_Dweller, I think the problem here is that no one really believes in ghost. That doesn't make it much of a discussion.

Sure, I've heard all sorts of ghost stories, though it doesn't feel right simply typing them. You need a properly spooky local in which to tell them, such as the basement of a couple hundred year old house, dimly lit by kerosine lanterns and filled with the relics of people long dead. A place where you can really sink into the story.

Anyway, no one I know has ever had anything resembling a paranormal encounter. I really don't give credence to the stories either, they are all in good fun, but don't take them seriously.

Thanks Quiet Fanatic. It could possibly be that since stuff like this is so rare that its just really a matter of dysfunctional brain chemistry. I once heard that people who see "ghosts" and people who have disorders of the mind are often the same.

Also that in one study patients recieving electrical stimulation to area's of the brain experienced bizarre thoughts and feelings that could easily be called paranormal.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

*EDIT*

Thanks too Kotario. I didnt mean stories like for fun though...I mean like seriously seeing something you couldnt explain. Not to entertain some friends on a lonely night, but something only said in confidence when you actually believe you experienced something out of this world. I'll explain more tomorrow...

Yes, i believe there are ghosts and unrested spirits. I see them all the time, hell i have one at home. *shrug* Earth is a planet full of the dead. People die in the thousands. why would ghosts be too much of a probability?

My guess about the connection between ghosts and the people with disorders is that their mind can't take it. Ghosts are usually the embodiment of pain, despair and longing of the person they take form of. This does not make ghosts a threat, just casually uncomfortable. Think of it like this, take the stress your normal stressful day then add the weight of another person's stress on top of yours. Do you think most minds can hold so much weight or will it shatter like glass after a brick has been thrown into it?

Though i shouldn't be talking about the experience of a ghost close-hand, i should be talking about the question if they truly exist or my mind is just playing tricks on me.

Let me put it this way, if ghosts don't exist, what happens to a person who just doesn't make the cut into being let in heaven (or just doesn't want to go) but hasn't sinned enough to be locked in hell?

What about all those people who don't believe in heaven or hell?

Why are ghosts limited to people?

What? My first post was serious. I really do believe in all of those things.

heaven and hell are easy to relate to, though you make a good point. As i said before Earth is a planet-sized graveyard, the soil itself is made up of alot of dead things. plants, bugs, decomposed animals. With such perspectively grim world, why wouldn't there be ghosts, human or otherwise?
