on the advice of a walkthrough, I have been spending points on doctor not first aid.

if I get a decent doctor score is first aid worth buying up?

No, doctor is the clear cut winner. There are quest checks involving doctor, but I don't seem to remember any involving first aid. Also: Doctor will fix more HP as well as broken bones. Neither skill, though, is worth significantly investing in past 80% or so.

"Doctor" is better choice. There are lots of First Aid books, no need to put skillpoints here. With Doctor, you receive more XP per use; also some perks, quests and features are depending on high Doctor skill. (mentioned 80% in Doctor is enough)

I wouldn't recommend anyone to invest any points into the First Aid skill. It's also more rewarding to sell any First Aid books you find, rather than to read them. Yep, the skill is that horrible.

    weaklings... here is my guide:

First Aid: no points, just read skill books. The skill IS usefull, each use gives 25xp (that's 75xp/day if really injured) and saves stimpacks. That may not be anything late game, since the XP is low and stims are abundant, but in the begining it's a must.

Doctor: everything said above, except there are no book so go for 55 points when playing normal, and switch to easy when dealing with NPC's (75 is the highest check, in Vault City). Vault City training will increase it by 5 and Living Anatomy (very good perk) will boost further by 10, to a total of 70 on normal (90 on easy).

Seriously, 3 uses/day of each = 225 xp, that's very nice until around level 10, since it's free and easy XP.

    Never say no to XP.

Anyone playing the game on easy, or the normal setting should hang their head in shame....it must be hard all the way.

I'm currently playing a game with a single character (no NPC's), on hard, with -150 karma, and the childkiller perk, and it's not pleasant out there with all these bounty hunters, but that's why I pick and choose my fights, unlike the game on easy with 3 NPC's, it's no fun killing every encounter without hardly a scratch.

And yeah Doctor is better, especially for those crippled limbs, damaged eyes, etc...

Gee, I usually play on Normal and I have quite a time of it. Of course my character is usually diplomatic/science/repair based but even with Cassidy and Marcus I would have to run from most encounters... even low level ones. And even once I had killed Horrigan I still was too weak to take on those robber caves.
