Does anyone know of any mods to make fallout 3 more like the originals?

The Toaster Of Death

First time out of the vault
I picked up the series with fallout 1, then got fallout 3 and new vegas. I thought fallout 3 was okay, and put a lot of time into new vegas, then I recently went back and played fallout 2. After having a good comparison for fallout 3, I'm kind of unimpressed. Does anyone know of any mods to make FO3 more like the original FO1 and FO2?

FWE is an essential, EVE, the Ironsight mod is useful but has some bugs, Gopher's armour/H.U.D. mods are pretty useful, Mothership Zeta Crew is an interesting quest mod that expands on the previously useless spaceship left by the aliums although it's too anime for me, try searching around the Nexus for more mods that suit your taste. Unfortunately, nothing can really make F3 even slightly like the originals.

Hopefully, the upcoming Van Buren mod would have a gameplay close to Fo1-Fo2 and a lore close to FoNV.

Van Buren will be closer to the gameplay of the first two games than Bethesda's version of Fallout 3 ever will be.

I played Wanderer's Edition, but I don't think it makes the game much more like the originals. It makes it tougher and a helluva lot more annoying, but, dunno, the feeling is still the same.

The ISO viewpoint and dialog is possible, but the map assets often have either no roofs, or junk along the hallway ceilings; obstructing the view of the PC. It would seem possible to script turn based combat, but I've only seen one attempt, and the goal of it seemed merely to make actions consecutive.

I played around with it, but that's all... It seemed a lost cause, because of the monumental overhaul it would take; (which would have to include rewriting a lot of it).

I remember seeing a much less clunky dialogue menu mod, looked much more like the originals... can't seem to find it anymore

You mean this one? @TheChosen1

It uses assets from Fallout Tactics, but is still pretty vintage looking I guess

Either way OP, this mod can probably make things a little more "classic" feeling, but as many have pointed out, not much can change Fallout 3 into the originals, just go back and play the originals instead.

Nah, there was another one, similar to what Gizmo showed except it looked more like the dialogue menu from the originals (without the round/oval thing). Revelation ui is pretty good too though.

He asked for mods that made it like the originals, not your favorite mods.

I don't recall Iron Sights or S.T.A.L.K.E.R style gameplay in the originals.

As for the answer to your question OP, you can't really do it. I'd recommend uninstall.exe

A top down view mod wouldn't need to worry about ceilings on indoor areas as they don't usually have normals on the top parts of the ceiling planes, as it helps them work on maps from outside. Hell some walls outright have no normals on places you are not meant to see during normal play (try typing tfc 1 during Come fly with me in New Vegas when Jason and his group are giving their speech or just hanging around in the rocket area, you won't get a nice view of the window the Courier is looking through from Jason's perspective, you will see a big ol' hole in the wall where you can see the empty void and the courier standing like a dumbass in a tiny room looking at you, that wall only has normals on the Courier side as you are not meant to enter the Rocket room and cutting up unnecessary things is always a big help when it comes to lodaing times and performance of the cell). The issue would come with multi level maps with stairs and such, they would need to break those up or make some rather crazy scripts to make things on the level above become invisible when you enter a specific zone of the cell. Which sounds like way too much work for something that doesn't benefit the game in any way.

The oval round thing was from a photo of a 1940's oscilloscope that I found. That whole UI is a custom image, and a changed layout for the dialog. I hadn't got the money counter working before I lost the whole thing to a hard drive crash along with my Redneck Rampage mod.

I've not seen any other UIs that were similar. Did you mean the Readius mod?

I know, I was kinda drunk when I wrote that and didn't feel like deleting it.
