Does the BoS ending betray the ideals of the Brotherhood?

Some people have commented that they were horrified at the destruction of technology by Arthur Maxson in the eradication of the Institute. I'm also of the mind that Arthur Maxson has actually betrayed the principles of the Brotherhood because he unleashed a nuclear holocaust on a populated human civilization when the whole purpose of the BOS is to gather technology to prevent that from being possible.

Indeed, if you think about it, Elder Lyons really did betray the core tenants of the BOS first by rebuilding Liberty Prime. He used the weapon to destroy the Enclave when it's the purpose of the BOS not to use such weapons again as they destroyed the world but if you don't blow up Raven's Rock, he eradicated a post-War civilization.

Arthur Maxson following that route has eliminated a technologically advanced civilization and helped pushed humanity back to the Dark Age.

Horrified? No, but it goes completely against the Brotherhood of Steels' core principles. The Brotherhood supposedly gathers hi-tech weaponry to keep people from misusing it, whilst it's pretty obvious that they just use that as an excuse to keep it all to themselves. They don't care about anyone else.
