So I just played the leaked Doom 3 alpha demo, the one that they showed at E3. Let me tell you.....it rocks my socks. Even though its Version 0.02, its awesome. The graphics are amazing for an alpha demo, and with a little tweaking of the game files, I was able to increase the resolution and frames/sec. You're able to play 3 levels (actually, they're kinda areas in the gigantic levels). The monsters are crazy, the graphics are amazing. Did I mention how amazing the graphics are? Real time shadows and lighting! WOW. This game is going to be an unbelievable must have for fans of first person shooters. *Edited by Montez - for questions PM King Of Creation*
 
I edited your message a little King. The alpha is still warez as far as I know, so you can't make an announcement like that here. Feel free to edit my edit to make it more to your liking, but make sure it isn't anything that could get Odin in trouble.
 
Just for old times, I installed Doom II on my computer and fired it up. Man, there is a reason why it's on my top ten list of PC games.
Besides the level design and the monster design, the thing that strikes me as ahead of its time was the lighting. Even now, ten years after it was unleashed onto the public, I'm still amazed how the lighting managed to convey the sense of fear that it demands- sort of like how the lighting greatly enhances the stealthiness of Splinter Cell. Yeah, the maps were too dark in several places, but at least there was a gamma correction feature built in.

I'm pumped about Doom 3: I actually placed two preorders to get the two different pewter figurines being given away- Best Buy has the Mancubus, and EB Games has the Pinky Demon- although if I find out that Gamestop has one, I'll get that, too. :)

I'm also interested about the Xbox version. Considering that my precious green levathian can do this, there's no reason why it can't do Doom III. With an HDTV, I'm convinced that the Xbox version can look like the PC version with all the goodies cranked up.

So, any thoughts?
 
Yes, that game along with HL2 and now possibly STALKER and Far Cry will set the new standard in FPS games.
 
Doom is the only FPS that actually makes me look around the screen. Turning off all the lights, turning up the sound and hunting for demons is better than any horror flick period.

Now where did I put my Doom discs...

for those who managed to play it , and saw some amazing grafix..can you say your system specs please..?
 
hey do you know what's the diffrence between the Ti's and radeon 9600 series?
(i have 9600 pro)
 
Ti's don't have DX9 support are less powerful, so you should be able to play with no problem.
 
I played it with a P4 2.8 ghz, 1 gb RAM, Radeon 9800
The fps was still pretty low cause, well, its like a pre alpha version or whatever. There are directions online to fix the choppiness and everything, but I was too lazy to do it. The animations still ran pretty fine, though.

Good thought, although I do hear that you can crouch...
If you can't jump, then the multiplayer maps should be reworked for that fact.
