There's a new website on the net, and it's the home of Ground Zero - a postnuclear mod in the making for Doom 3. The site was launched some time ago, and now it's been updated with their first open prototype which is available for download. There are a number of screenshots on the site already, and you can go and witness them, but I won't post them here since you'd probably laugh, and it's not nice to laugh since the team have been showing steady progress since August last year.

The (currently quite gray and threadbare) town of Springhill has been inhabited by evil radioactive bandits, and you must clear it out with nothing but your trusty sidearm, flashlight, and fists!

In our first public play test you will get a glimpse of the "step-based" combat system we're developing, as well as the method for crafting Ground Zero's environments. We even managed to sneak in some new music from composer Blaise Douros. Please be sure to read over the included manual (located in the plug-in folder) which should answer most immediate questions, as well as the known bugs document for various code and graphic errata. Keep in mind that this is a VERY early release and only scratches the surface of our final vision.

This is the first of many public releases we'll do over the course of development. We would like to keep the public in the loop throughout production, so please come by the forums to leave feedback, suggestions, questions, or even to discuss problems that have come up in your own projects. We feel that collaboration and open doors are important in cultivating a strong mod community and innovative game design in general.
Note: This mod has nothing in common with the Ground Zero strategy game or Ground Zero Team, the creators of Forlorn World.

Screenshots? I couldn't find any screenshots on their site...

The concept art is not bad, though, not bad at all. They sure have some good environmental concept artists in their team.

I was first going to make fun of it (being a Doom3 mod and all, also... "evil radioactive bandits"? ugh) but looking at those screenshots it seems they are doing some interesting things with the engine...

Hmmm... we shall see...

This one might have potential (might). The concept art is quite good (enviroments) and by the looks of it the enviroments look "ok" ingame too. Now they only need persons to make the characters good also...

I'm still so skeptic with all these projects currently in the works (or forgotten)...well perhaps not in the one I'm in, but the others. They have one single good idea, and try to make a game out of it. You need millions of good ideas and then you pick 10% of them to actually manage it all.

Looking at the most recent screenshots it looks as if they've moved to a 3rd person view. Not suprising really given that it's a DooM 3 mod, making into a top-down iso would be a lot harder.

I have a feeling F3 is going to look like that (1st person view), knowing Bethesda.

It might not look bad (or even play bad, who knows), but it won't be Fallout to me...

Say it ain't so.

They don't look to bad, but I'm not a big fan of FPS.

Looking at their site design and concepts, I say "hardcore Fallouteers".
Dude, that word not be.

Perhaps it's a translation error, but I've yet to see a suitable, single word, equivalent. Fallouut Fanatic is the closest I've seen, with the, rather obvious, problem of 100% more words than one.

Drunken Post - Please ignore all contents. Yes, I know I was supposed to stop all these shenanigans, but if Jebus can be drunk on-forum, then so can I.

I appreciate their concept art. The female characters don't appear to be sexist in the least, which is pretty much a first in a project like this.

The 3D models are pretty sweet too.

Not what I'd expect of Fallout, but it's great that someone is making something worthwhile from the poor, abused DOOM 3 engine. It's pretty much a crime what id did to that engine, it didn't have a chance.

The modified D3 engine used in Enemy Territory:Quake War seems promising. 8) No more narrow indoor enviroment but real big outdoor. Now with water!

props to the concept artist but i was going to make a comment on 'apocolyptica housewife' and PLEASE.. DO NOT let me detect at least the tiniest bit of complacency of what F3 may look like FPS. i thought we didn't do that here.
