Dramatic delay!

Well at least i got your attention.

Now as many of you know Oblivion has been delayed to 2006, causing a quiet, rather mild, in tune with the TeS fans general spirit, riot. Since their fora isn`t the best place to post anything about it right now, since it could be misunderstood ("OMG!FALLOTFANZATTACK!!!THEYRTEHEVIL") , and the situation already had some serious repercussions i just wanted to ask this:

What happened for the game to be delayed? Did they failed microsoft X-Box quality checks? Or are they having the same problems the Stalker guys are having with their new AI system?

And how will this affect the development of Fallout3?

Please speculate at will.

P.s: I just posted there about asking about FO3 and the repercussions of this delay, hope i get an answer soon.

They have a joint marketing campaign with the STALKER crew.

Since Bethesda is known for taking their time with their games and aren't under any publisher deadlines I'm assuming that they just want more time to tune up the game. One delay is hardly anything to get excited about, though I sure as hell wouldn't want to be an investor in Take Two right now.

Or they founded some things missing in the O that was already in F3s(?), and it could be used in both games.
Or then the developers needed time for their perverse sex festivities...

mmmm while they tend to delay, missing the opening day of XBox 360 certainly will hurt. All those people looking to pick up a first game for their system...

So Oblivion has a hiccup and now that its "dead" so now comes the murder of Fallout 3?

I doubt it.

The serious loss in stock is something bad though.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

For some inexplicable reason the delay of "Morrowind with spiffy bells and whistles" for the CrapBox 360 causes nothing more than a large "meh" with me...

So Todd and I were talking last night and decided that we, or I, should post something on the forums to try and bring fans up-to-speed on what's up. So here goes.

In short, the game is coming out in early 2006 because it isn't done yet. We still have things that need to be done before the game is released. So we continue to optimize, test, balance, etc. We've already gone way beyond what we did in any game previously in playtesting and balancing this game. Way beyond. But there is work that needs to be done and so development continues to go on pretty much around the clock. We will not put out a more specific date until we are certain we will be ready then. Like system specs, we aren't fans of putting out info that changes later on and only confuses or annoys our fans.

We have a number of site updates planned between now and the game's release that we hope to do on a regular basis each week. We'll do the best we can to make it every week, but understand that sometimes PR/marketing stuff gets in the way of game development and so it has to get set aside sometimes for the good of the game (and the people making it). We'll be updating the Codex in stages, adding new concept art, screens, etc. in the coming weeks and months. We're open to doing another fan interview in the coming weeks as well to let you ask what it is you think we aren't telling you. In short, we aren't holding out on you, we just don't want to be done telling you about the game before it comes out.

We appreciate your patience and continued support and ensure you that your dedication will be rewarded with what we think is the best RPG you've ever played.

Best,

Pete (and Todd)

One lesson out of this is that they are slow at reacting hen there are problems with the fans. The second is the technology seems not to be as awesome as it appeared, and they are still having some problems with it. Hmmmm anything else?

Or it could be that someone higher up got the clue that the core audience, ie not the console trash, is pretty upset at how they are treating the series with the announced bits chopping it down into yet another one of Bethesda's shitty action games (which, no matter how much you can loathe their CRPG style, their action games are far, FAR more deserving of the term "shitware") instead of a wide-open character system (which was, you know, the point of TES from Arena), leading them to un-fuck many aspects of the game before release?

Or they went the other direction, perhaps figuring like Herve that the console crowd is totally where it's at, and fated both TES and Fallout to console action trash?

And then what does this mean for Fallout, if Bethesda does either decide to make their own franchise more like what that core audience wants; or on the contrary, if they sell out their own franchise for puerile and F:POS reasons?

We can only wait and see, and take a look at what REAL reasons they give, as that was one of Pete's better "hey, we're doing something and we know something, but we're not saying what...but it will be great and for the X-BOX!!!OMFG!!!".

Whatever. The more delay the more money I can save to get my new computer to play Oblivion in high details and high resolution.

And I don't plan to get a X360.
