Anyone seen this flick?

I may not here for all times; this must've been one of the worst movies I've seen in ages. I'm serious. Morgan Freeman should retire, before he does something like this again. The poor old guy must be going senile.

To my dismay I have also seen this movie. The novel by Stephen King was much better and, having read the book before, I came with high expectations. It seems that half the movies originating from King's books end up good (Stand By Me, Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption) or horrendous (IT, Dreamcatcher, Shining). They really fucked around with some the of the plot (Duddits was NOT an alien). The previews give suggestion of some real horror and bonding with the characters but its strained. Morgan Freeman, after seeing his hair in this performance and melodramatic bullshitting, should retire. I was realy disappointed since this book was pretty good.

Sorry about the spoiler.

"It" is not a horrible movie, it has its moments. And the Shining really is good if you're in the mood, though it isn't when you're not. Kubrick's a bit overrated anyway, 2001 blows, though Strangelove is, in my opinion, the best movie of all time.

I read the book last year and thought it was pretty good, but it would be hell to translate that into a 90-minute movie. The book has quite a few visual moments but so much of it is the inner thoughts of the charcters. I still wouldn't mind seeing it when it comes out on video.

Why watch good books become crappy movies when you can watch the Alien movies? Mmmmmmmmmmm... Alien... Aliens... Alien3... What? There's no fourth movie. Alien: Resurrection doesn't exist. It's a deranged figment of your imagination. :D

If I had money I would have gone to see it, if only for the Final Flight of the Osiris. However after hearing a few opinions on Dreamcatcher I guess it worked out that I'm perpetually broke.

Try and read the jurrasic park books. The first one ain`t so bad, but the second movie doesn`t match the second book. The third movies is actually closer to the second book.

Besides Harry Potter, i think that books makes lousy movies, or rather movies based on books makes lousy movies.
Harry POtter and the Lord of the rings movies have respected the books.
Still does not make them good movies.

Well, you know you can't fuck up Tolkien's universe. He's about the first epic fantasy writer, bringing back the nostalgia of Arthurian tales. Peter Jackson went in making the LOTR with that mentality and good for him. I've liked all of Tolkien's book (except for the Silmarillion which was almost pure narrative) and I think the two Lord of the Rings movies lived up to their rich background.

Of course, Tolkien probably would have still not allowed the books to be adapted to movie. The Beatles had approached Tolkien to make a simple college skit of the LOTR in which they would be the elemental main characters and he turned them down. Come on, man, the Beatles!

Books and movies

The Shinning was a great movie. Someone already stated the fact that its very hard to make a good movie from a 600 page book which is what the shinning is. And I think Kubrick is an amazing directer simply by the fact that he can create good movies from books. 2001 a space oddessy came from the arthur miller book, A clockwork orange came from Anthony Burgess, and the great Dr. Stranglove came from a book called Red Alert by Peter George. I agree the shinning wasnt all the book was but i think it was a great effort and still a pretty damn good (and scary) movie.

Oh yeah and the dreamcather was fucking awful.
