Dust & Blood :F2mod

@Lich: Man, you're working! That train is definitely something worth seeing in a mod. But there's a flaw after all:
...using big junk train wehicles (which burn toxic waste)
You see, if the waste would be usable as a source of energy, then it wouldn't be the waste. It's there to trouble the world, not to be useful. Just think about it...

Also, I like the idea of making FO2 more classical (as FO1 was) and the turning point in the game. Not bad for an one-man-army.

If you make something worth playing, I pledge I'll be there to help you with graphics.

@All trying to recruit Lich: stop pestering the man, he won't join your modding team. It's simple as that.
 
It would be nice to see more complete mods see the light of day, but I still strongly believe that this is a lot of work for one guy.

Scripting, mapping, dialogue, artwork, testing? That's a lot to do.

The train would be nice to see in the Megamod with some alterations to other towns to allow for train travel.

lich's train is interesting, but looks a little like a pile of junk. Why not a normal old train which just looks rusty and battered?

In brief - we had had one, so it is viable in any case. Later we have decided not to copy FT and make a completely new one, whereas the old screen with that FT-converted train seems to be lost for ever (it was even posted in BGE gallery at old BGE website).

Heh, who wanted this?

Some people just said that he probably can´t work on a big mod alone.
 
I dont want talk too much about this mod, because it was big mistake during work on Black Steel (finall result was different from 90% of my concepts) Already i have different style: i dont make long distance plans, but short ideas which i quickly put into life. Chaos and improvisation, it works because i made lot of progress that way. Already Dust and Blood is much larger from BSM and surely my greatest mod (many big maps, graphics, and NPCs)

Maps and graphisc part is alsmost complete and now i slowly begin to scripting. First i want to finish minimal version which will contain 3 towns and 40 talking heads, also some small maps: ruins and big multilevels map like vault of future and brotherhood of steel. Everything filled with new scenery and items.
 
Hi, Lich, I am keep reading your blog of Blood and Dust almost everyday. It really looks promising. Will you use some of the beautiful scene from Black Steel? They provide superior atmosphere even compared to the original FO.

Errr, Lich, you have posted oodles of screens at your blog, but what about other important info?

I mean basic chatter like where it will be located and when, what about plotline (hope that we won´t be saving the fucking world, again), how big it would be etc. (do not say that you have absolutely no idea)

You are active enough to finish something big, I guess, but - on contrariwise - no one here wants to play something what might finally look like another Wasteland-Merc Diablo clickfest. :wink: :o
 
@Jesterka: I believe you're missing the point of the whole concept. Lich doesn't work as most of other modders do - meaning he doesn't complete a huge story first and then try to complete small parts of it.

It's a reversed way of work. Very dangerous, but the best recipe for a one-man-army.

I mentioned about it few times in blog:

You are citizen from Vault of future (only one civilian vault in whole wasteland). Mutants overruned it, like was shown in ovrrun.mve from F1. Anyway i got idea to use it as intro movie to this mod. Few citizens survived attack, escaped and hide inside ruins around (and game start in one from such ruins)

Mutants also hit other strategic obiects like Brotherhood of Steel. BoS leader is artificial inteligence. BoS knights and monks spend time underground on research and build new equipment. After some time mutants will enter towns and kill peoples. Some from NPCs you meet will die, others will join to BoS as recruits.

How start war? Whole barter in wasteland is made by railways (Safety transport guild) Trains have armor better from tank and can burn everything in his engines, best option when so many dangerous outside and lack of fuel. Transport guild is rich but they also welcome some new money. Mutants find lot of gold in mountain caves and buy from guild war equipment.

Every NPC is made as talking head, each peoples in town are connected. This give feeling of realistic living town in old movie atmosphere. I could shown you first town demo because finished basic dialogs. To increase playable time i will probably put many riddles to think about answers lot of time. Already i dont have any quest instead of bartering (every person have item and want exchange it into another)

When you finish adventure part, solve every quests, then game will change (mutants will enter towns) Every towns will have alternate destroyed version. From this point you can join to BoS army and here start tactic game. Mostly just battles, nothing else to do (instead of explore special encounters: "abandoned places") and finally kill mutants leader or something (its usual to most of known games)

But this all its just ambitious plan. Alternate i could relase it as extension to F2, because every new locations i build on special encounters maps. So just new locations, scenery and other graphics in old known game. But in this mod i made my best town maps and graphics so even small version will be better from Black Steel.

Anyway don you think that made big or any F2 mods is pointless? They all will be forgotten quickly when come F3 ..and his comming.
 
Thanks for your plotline insertion. Not bad, although fractions like muties / BO / NCR are repeating too much in my view. Contrariwise, there is probably a big space for specifically living world (human traitors, mutant traitors, dynamic war progress which is influenceable by Hero, etc.)

The whole life is basically pointless.
 
I wonder about this big building from yours mod, i recognize on roof parts from Navarro radar and space craft from Sanfran. Its look like huge scenery to me. Already i dont tryed it but i think it could be possible to made "scenery buildings".

Ofcourse every ambitious ideas only slow project progress and first i will try to finish very basic version (few towns filled with peoples)

About the character invention:
Do you want random people, not connected to your plot? Or ideas/suggestions for persons you can base plot-related NPC's on?


Anyway, an idea:
The main character was from the vault, right? Well, I was thinking of a female mutant NPC, that did not agree to the choices of the main army (killing the humans, their ancestors) and wandered off on her own. She ended up in a player accessible area.

The player doesn't trust a mutant at all, and starts off by trying to get more info about the mutant threat.

As time passes, and he talks to her more (doing quests that involve the past, and discussing those historic discoveries with her), she starts remembering more and more of her old life.
This leading to her remembering living in a vault, then remembering what vault it was, and eventually they realize that she was the player's girlfriend from when they lived in the vault...

Disgusted by what she's become, she can make some dramatic decisions.

Lots of room for improvement: You can make her hidden in a basement (a mutant living amongst the rest, can't be!), you can make her cloaked (as Goris in F2), a recruitable NPC (going after the mutants that separated her from her love), make her commit suicide or rush in a mad rage at the vault (being disgusted by how she looks now, remembering her looks from before) or even make a quest to research/barter a cure for FEV - so she can be restored to her old, beautiful self.


*edit* Why does it change to " plz " whenever I want to type p l z ? That's short for please, afaik?
 
Lich, if you want people to help, it makes it easier for them to know exactly where they fit in.

Mostly i need storywriters about NPCs dialogs.

About the character invention:
Do you want random people, not connected to your plot? Or ideas/suggestions for persons you can base plot-related NPC's on?

Random peoples not connected to major plot. They mostly spend time in his small towns and dont known too much about outside wasteland (instead of few outdoorsmans)
 
What worldmap area do you use in your mod?
Have you got ideas about random encounters, even tjose generic and special?

This mod is my own vision about postnuclear game so it have only few connections to known Fallouts world background. I will use F2 worldmap, but none random encounters in usual meaning* and totally different towns.

*NPCs will give info about extra locations or increase outdoorsman skill could reveal new areas to explore. I will made them different way because normal encounters was too crazy or give too much exp and stuff. Now encounters are "abandoned places" ruins with treasures to find.
