E3 interview with Todd Howard on Gametrailers

Gametrailers interviewed Todd, so you can watch him talk about Fallout 3 in SD or HD. There's mostly stills from the game, though, and no new information to speak of (or at least so I think, since the thing stops loading for me before I get to the end). If you want you can watch the monitors in the background.

Note: when you first see the horse, that's not actually Fallout 3 footage.

Spotted on the BGSF.

Actually if you look in the background I think you can see people playing the game, which may count as game play footage. And they show the conversion system in those small and blurry screens. I appears improved from Oblivion with actual body language rather then just the person standing stiffly in front of you.

I'll have to try later, but for now I just can't get past about the midpoint. I get to where he talks about Charisma and NPCs and then it just stops loading. QuickTime, my old enemy.

I had the same problem. Switched to SD (an option below the vid) and got the whole thing.

Doesn't help for capturing quality stills, but at least you can watch the whole thing.

There are various format options available at the bottom of the video frame. Watch it in wmv or flv or start downloading it and watch the stream with VLC.

Oh god why wont he stop saying 'nukular'.

Also, completely irrelevant question:
Anybody else recognise the music in the background? I know the first is Bioshock, second is Diablo, but the third's got me stumped. Sounds like Deus Ex or something.

Thanks, the flash version worked beautifully. I was having trouble with the SD too.

It looks like you can customize color of the HUD, one has it normal green, the other has it all yellow?

Btw, am new here, but I have been coming here to curb my enthusiasm about fallout 3 for 4 years now : )

I would imagine that seeing Fallout 3 would curb your enthusiasm for Fallout 3.

I don't want to spam this topic, but my position towards Fallout games is this - I finished both FO1&2 exactly eleven times, for the first time in a year 1999.They are still my favourite games of all time. But ever since I played them, I wanted the next game to be 3D, first or third person - you see, to me, the good things about Fallout were setting, story, dialogues, freedom, quests and their various outcomes and consequences, et cetera. Not TB and ISO. I wanted "to be there", to see the inside of the vaults up close and personal, to wander that destroyed landscape, baseball fields, malls...

So when Bethesda announced what they are doing, I was excited, yet careful. Then news came, some of it I liked, some I did not (like the look of supermutants, exploding cars, fatman..) but I was still positive. But this website and forums always let me be careful and not too hyped and optimistic - and am glad for that, because that way I won't be that let down when it actually fails (if it does).

That said, the demo on G4TV and MS conference made me quite sad, not for the actual content (although it looks quite underwhelming and I hope he was just beefed up and you won't be able to kill someone with teddybear), but for the fact that Bethesda KNOWS what all fans want, but they just DON'T show it.

Hopefully, todays IGN presentation will give us, fans, something to look at.Because I really don't care about another FATMAN EVERY KID WANTZ THAT UNDER THE TREE demo.

Actually this is worth watching just cause you can catch a lot a little shit going on in the background where people are playing hands on.

Yeah, the people playing in the background is pretty nice.

Also: Why does it look like they just asked Todd for an interview after he finished a thorough crying session?

He looks really upset in this one. :?

Did I hear it right when he said that there are 20 bobbleheads arround the game world to raise statistics? bobbleheads?!

Stat-raising bobbleheads?? Now that's just retarded. Why don't they just ditch that stat charade altogether and make it a straight shooter. What's the point in having stats if you going to be able to raise them to insane numbers anyway, thus making it almost irrelevant which ones you choose to have as your strongest and weakest.

This is likely a method they are trying to use to encourage exploration, but skill raising books and the like would likely make more sense and be better balanced.

If I heard correctly, he even said that there was 20, one for each statistic. Does that mean one for each stat and one for each skill? Either way, it's stupid... :(

This has been known for a very, very long time. But I wonder about those twenty - this way it looks it raises both skills and main stats.Weird.They really should stick with books.

What the hell? Do you live in the 16th century or something? Reading is for noobs.

Here in the 23rd century, knowledge can only be gained by carrying around magical bobbleheads.

I like the idea of one or more massive scavenger hunts across the entire play area. For instance, one bobblehead might be in a raider safe that pretty much everyone would come across, while another might be found under a loose board in the back room of generic shack #34. And then the whole internet is like, "Where is number 12!?!?" and "I spotted #17 in a gutter when diving from the Washington Monument" and "Flying teddy bears are harmless arrggghhh". See? RPG stuff. There are no loosely flying limbs in this scenario if you discount the bear. Also they should be rocks. Mmmm. ROCKS
