Totally just nabbed it from Joystiq but heres the cherry :
John Riccitiello, the recently (as of April) reinstated chief executive of EA, sat down and told them that the games industry is "boring people to death and making games that are harder and harder to play."

Riccitiello worries that the industry as a whole, including EA Games, creates too many games that lack innovation. He also urges publishers to experiment by looking beyond the typical $50-60 disc with 40-plus hours of play that "few players will ever finish."

this coming from EA is like a mindfuck :) also cant help but note the simmilarity in PR with EA and Bethsoft

i.e. they are going to start making $100 7h games that everyone can finish?

Substitute easier for harder and he's right on the money.

I'm with you on that one, Sander. We need more complex interfaces, to comb out the idiots in the gaming population! More dialogue, to crush the mentally handicapped of us! And, puzzles that take more than a few tries to figure out!

Fucking ridiculous. There are already enough mind-numbing games out there. I want a game created by smart, witty people, not just good artists.

We all need some new games that look good and play well with a good story line I can't really remember the last time I played a game that made me think or engrossed me that I forgot about time.

HARDER? what the FUCK?

ugh...

time to add another name to the list of people who piss me off...

Of course they're getting harder. I mean, look at Oblivion. It actually makes you click on your destination pointed at by the compass before fast-travelling you there!
It should all be automatic! And what's with this having to swing your sword when an enemy attacks? That's too hard! Why can't the game do it for me?

Finally? He is only one of the central figures in EA during the last decade, having a significant role in creating this behemoth that squashes innovation and consistently destroys quality studios.

i usually turn away from things or people labled EA, not taking the time to read whatever they say or promote.

so that's why he's not on the list yet. :lalala:

Well, EA isn't *all* bad. The Sims was a pretty innovative and quality game. And EA Big makes some damn fun sports games.
...
I guess that's about it, really.

That's only because they bought out Maxis, a group that knows how to innovate. I have had, at one time or another, every single Maxis game ever made (up until The Sims... didn't bother with any expansions). There was nothing dull, dreary, or boring about any of their games.

AFAIC, EA is nothing more than "a big name", and that's it. Their games are abysmal, and their PR department sucks horribly... but as long as they're not actually developing a game, the ones they simply publish turn out well.

EA always been a bunch of Tardbars
They are worse than Disney in refusing to flow with the Trends and the Times.

I want a game that pulls me in, frustrates me, more then 150 hours of game time, good music, difficult, bloody, eh well you git the idea. Last game that did all of the above for me was Myst.

...what

Dude, EA is all about flowing with "The Trends and The Times". That's ALL THEY DO. People want games about gangsta rappers, EA showz dem da love. People want yearly doses of barely-changed sports games, EA delivers the hit. They want super-awesome xxxxtreme sports games, they slam the dookie and cut the cheesie or some shit. Twenty-seven times.

People want GTA, EA can't buy Rockstar, so cheap Vietnamese labor produces clones. Crazy, unprecedented concept comes out of nowhere to be exceedingly popular against "analyst expectations"?

No problem, babe. EA buys that sucker up, grinds out 63 expansions, forces out a sequel and then jams it so far down our collective throat their shit-stained talons burst from the rectum like the hand of Dog.

To sum things up, EA's mission statement (no, really):

"Ride the pulse of the latest fad, and stick our name on it".

EA is the ebaumsworld of the gaming industry.

Disney, in comparison, is the Square-Enix of the movie industry. Do the math on that one.

How dare you say that about Disney.

I have two games from EA that I can see: The Sims 2, and The Godfather.

The Sims 2 was an incredibly fun and innovative game.

The Godfather was a competent GTA-clone (almost in a literal sense) which I grew bored of a third of the way in.

The difference? The Godfather was made in-house. Maxis, and the Maxis team, developed Sims 2.

I am almost shocked that EA allowed Maxis to put out the Sims 2.

EA makes boring console games. That's pretty much the end of it.

Hello SuAside,

Perhaps with 'harder', he means that it takes more of a gamer these days to finish a game because of the incredible boredom and repetitiveness they experience.
