Earliest Big Gun (F2 RP2.2)

Svankensen

First time out of the vault
Hey there. My search-fu seems weak, for im sure this question has been asked before. I started a Big guns Dumb character (double challenge!). I tagged Big guns, steal and lockpick. Since im not going to get many spare points with my int of 3, ill have to do with small guns (from magazines mostly) and untrained melee until i find a Big gun. Wheres the earliest i can get a Big gun? It would really help my handicapped character.

BTW, having loads of fun with the dialogues, specially from Torr, a true "prince among men".

Edit: Just as a sidenote, i took fast shot and Small frame, any other tips for this character are also welcome. So far im juggling golden geckos in the toxic caves taking advantage from my 10 AP (30% success punch, run, hope that sulik manages to get one attack in, repeat)

I would go to the Hub, sneak into the basement of the weapon store, grab the electronic lockpicks, then go back to the basement of the golden gecko caves near Klamath and grab the Bozar. Or does that count as Small Arms? I can't remember except that it has the big guns animation when you equip it.

Yeah, thats a big gun indeed, and you are probably talking about new reno. That was my first plan, but i thought i couldnt get Vic in the party as a dumbass, so getting the engine repaired was not an option. But i just killed the slavers (locking the doors and using metzgers shotgun with fast shot really helped), and managed to get him on my side, so that seems like a plan that would work now. Besides, i got 4 pairs of boots, so i dont have to fear for Vics health, altrough i might get overly radiated, and killing that robot seems pretty hard.

Do i absolutely need the electronic lockpicks for hacking electrical doors, or do they just give me a bonus?

EDIT: Yep, absolutely need them. Shame...

Welp, wound up watching a caravan guard armed with miniguns go against some decently equiped bandits on my way to Broken Hills (looking for mentats to get the car). The bandits softened them up just enough for me to finish them (also made them waste most of their ammo, wich was very good considering the damage potential), and after some big karma loss i wound up lugging around 4 miniguns (that trip to broken hills and back was a pain in the ass, had to take jet just to be able to carry the stuff).

Anyway, for however short it was the minigun did a great job at killing strong foes and spending 40 rounds of precious 5mm ammo for each kill or 2. My pathetic Str of 5 was kinda bothersome both for the small capacity and the to hit penalty, but it seems that you dont really need to aim these things, you just have to shoot at the guy behind the one you want to kill, and if you hit both... well, even better.

After getting the car and the electronic lockpicks from New Reno, and spending some mentats again to (ugh...) buy my car back so i could get the probably-very-usefull-for-a-big-Guns-guy Trunk upgrade, i went to the toxic caves, Vic, Sulik and me fully equipped with metal armor and some decent weaponry. The minigun, even with AP ammo, failed to even scratch the SentryBot (well, with AP ammo it did astounding 4 damage at point blank...), but luckily i had those 2 EMP Grenades from the basement of New Reno Arms, wich i carefully aimed against the wall behind the Bot (after a few saves, it seems that calculating the trajectory trough 2 position is kinda weird with hexes) and got the allmighty Bozar and some sweet armor. With its lower STR requeriment (6), higher armor penetration and very common .223 ammo, it seems im gonna stick to this wonder for a long time. The ridiculously heavy minigun (28 pounds) ill prolly just sell, altrough it did rip trough metal armor or lesser crowds in an astounding way, wich i MIGHT miss. Im loking forward to getting a flamer and a bazooka to have a full arsenal (I got about 20 rckests stocked), so i might do Sierra Army Depot if my team can surive the Twin minigun bots (I cheated with the mentats there again, to solve the Wright kid quest, but i really had to chew on a bunch of them to be able to solve that one, wich, i guess, is kinda realistic).

Im now looking forward to doing a Hardcore game, but im pretty sure i wont do it as Dumb, going hardcore is enough of a challenge.
