Editor chugging...

ogreb

First time out of the vault
And I mean chugging...with barely anything on the map!
Before I could load the largest of maps with tons of entities before I saw any slowing!

Now on one lone 2 story house with little ground tile ( maybe 2 squares) I can barely place wall tiles as the mouse is so slow and jerky!

I had to reorder the game after disk 1 had it's terrible accident.
So I found one in England, and it just got here.

Loaded game and editor, loaded editor with .bos files, made new campaign folder, loaded old maps and files ( sound, art etc).

Everything fine...

Started map....got maybe 3 hours into it and I can't use it!

The mouse just drags and jerks! Placement is impossible on my old larger maps!

Help!

My rig 3.06 P4
1gig ram
6800gs 256
I clean and defrag often,
This rig plays Oblivion like butter...like melted butter...like melted butter in the heart of the sun....butterrrrr baby!

So what goes?
Do I need an older version of DX?
Older drivers?

My version says 1.26 not 1.27..even though I installed the patch 1.27.
My game is from England...
Never mind it is 1.27

But it still doesn't work!

Didn't you have a similar problem before?

The 1.27 patch upgrades the game to 1.27 but the editors are version 1.26.

What do you mean by load the editor with .bos files?

Have you tried hiding levels, or using the view only tiles on the current level command to see if that speeds things up?

Alternately try changing the resolution, the bos.cfg directly under c:\ is for the editor and you can force the resolution beyond the options given in the editor.

Take the level bar down to -128 and see if there are any tiles that have been placed on that level. There's a small glitch where sometimes when you place a tile, or fill an area with tiles it sends them to -128 and fills up to the outermost blue guidelines. But they don't tend to show up unless you lower the level bar. It's an annoying bug, I think it might be caused by moving the cursor just as you click to place the tile. Or maybe double clicking as you place the tile, I'm not sure I've never been able to consciously reproduce it.

Nope...no lost tiles...

I've turned AA off and that helps a little..I use 800x600

I have all the latest drivers..DX,video,audio..blah blah

When I was mapping before I always had AA on, and only the largest of maps( with many entities and tiles) would barely slow it down!
Now it crawls like a snail...AA off helps a little, but this is freaking rediculous! With AA it is ugly and hard on the eyes...I know I always had it on before.

Some of my old maps are 4 and 5 levels high ( 8x8 maps) and were overboard with tile and detail! Swarms of entities crawling over the place.( and I had AA on the whole time!)

Now I can barely fill a 6x6 with sparse tile and I'm slowing! ( without entities and no AA)

Also I started up the game and it's also slower...I can't scroll as fast as I once can....the gameplay is alright, but I can tell it's lagging compared to the way it once was.
This suks...something is wrong here.

I can play Oblivion and all my other games with no problems.

Me thinks this English POS is a POS...I had to find a new disk, so I had to order a new game

Patched it...but I'm wondering if thats where I went wrong?

It already had all the editor files unpacked.

What I meant is I had unzipped the entitiy, tile, sprite etc folders for the editor to use.
Also reinstalled custom folders into the editor ( stuff I saved when I was working before)

UPDATE...reinstalled...didn't help and I lost 2 weeks of work.
The disc gives it a 1.13v and the patch 1,27 installs without a hitch.

But still dragging...

I don't know...???

Try older drivers for your graphics card, I stopped updating mine after a while. Recent nvidia drivers caused strange things and with my pc and not all games would run so I rolled them back.

Actually before you do that try changing the sound settings for the editor, either set it to no 3d sound or add -m (no music) or -s (no sound) to your editor shortcut.

Tried no 3-D sound..no luck...

I will probably will have to roll back drivers...

That should be a good thing...as I will not tempted to slack off by playing Oblivion or something.

When you've placed your 10,000th tile and spent long nights on speech files etc. You go " Am I ever going to finish?" or "Is this really worth it?" blah blah...it's easy to just looad up a game and space the campaign.....but I will never finish that way.

I spent several months last year working 24 on this, then I think I burned out...I was seeing tiles in my sleep!

Now I got the itch..and the editor is not cooperating, but I'll slog through.

I bet it is the drivers..

Thanks for helping and listening to my ranting....

Tiles..tiles...tiles...TILES!!!
