enough skill points to make all rounder but not mediocre?

Not only is it balancing, but it encourages to make more characters that are good in specific areas. My character is a guns/EW type and from the quests I've done, every time I wish I had a high enough speech skill to pass those checks to see how they turn out.

I really didn't wanna have to kill that Nightkin leader in Jacobstown, but Pushy had a different idea. >:}

Well as the original poster, I ended up with something like

guns 100
energy weapons 50
lockpick 90
repair 90
science 70
speech 80
sneak 70
melee 30 (wasted points)
unarmed 90
everything else n00b

preferred kit: silenced sniper, all american (all round), that machine (COD flashbacks), pushy/ballistic fist

Even by around level 22 it was getting too easy lol. Sniper rifle + decent sneak = easy mode. Lets not even mention unique powerfists. By the time I got power armour I was on full autopilot

I ended up having a lot more fun with fists than guns but its not always practical to run straight at a minigun lol.

With above build, I could usually nail the non violent way in 90% of quests even if a magazine or two was involved.

Ok really quick let's see what kind of bonuses we can get from items and equipment. 100 lock pick is alright but I've picked every very hard lock pick with a 70 lock pick from the jumper that give +10 lock pick and the +20 from comprehension. Say you have an average perception of 5 and an average luck of 5 your skill in lock pick will be 17 when you start the game with 4 books that can give + 4 to your skills permanently that's an extra 16 bringing it to 33 so effectively you should only need to dump 37 points into lock picking but if you buy the perception implant make that 35 oh wait I have these 35 mentats I've never touched and there's a temp plus of 4 and what's this? Another plus 1 perception from a common hat! Well there's another 2 and you can use cyotee tobacco for another plus 1 to perception bringing you to a 10 perception thus adding 10 skill points meany bringing the skill up to 60 is more than enough ... and you'll be able to find all of these items with Ease thus wasted skill points if you went and got 100 in lockpicking only thing id ever max out are fighting everything else can be supplimented via items and equipment!
