GOG just posted that Fallout 1,2 and Tactics are removed from it's database due to circumstance beyond their control.

The person who already bought the three games can still retrieve them ,including the extra content, from My Games section on they user account.

Look's like the free giveaway has angered Zenimax, who now are trying to DRM all theirs games.

Actually we have known that they were going to be removed from the store for a while now, the give away was more of a fuck you from GoG/Interplay to Zenimax if anything.

I do hope GOG would negotiate a new deal with ZeniMax about selling them again. Now Steam is the only digital distribution platform to buy old Fallout games.

Booo!

I am very outspoken on this amongst my friends, but I hate Steam. DRM is bullshit, as is Always Online. Steam was doing the shit everyone hates about Diablo III, but years before that game was released. I have other reasons to hate them but Steam is way overrated.

On the other hand, at least we don't have to resort to Ebay.

On the plus side, the Fallout giveaway brought us a whole bunch of new traffic and users as people come to get the mods!

You can play offline mode, you only need to log in once ever and then set it to always be on offline, unless you want to play multiplayer games.

I don't dislike Steam. One the motives is that is the only way to get legal games with my country currency and you can find nice mods in the workshops, without Steam I pretty much would be another pirate game user and pretty bad one with my internet.

That's how I got tactics was via GOG--I have never played it before; though I am an old veteran of FO1 and 2. I've been trying to find a mod to allow FO Tactics to run windowed, as surprisingly none of the high res patches seems to include it O.o

I also downloaded FO1 from GoG too; I'm glad you can still retrieve it though because I have to re-dl the damn thing -_-

If you still need Tactics send me a PM. I have a copy of it that you can have.

And yeah, I'm very happy they didn't pull access for people that already purchased it. That would suck a lot. :revolution:

I don't need it but thanks a lot for the offer--I already installed Tactics plus the mod--the only d/l that wasn't working right was FO1, but I think that is due to a blip in my internet connection; I'll prolly redownload it today though just in case they yank access for those of us who've purchased it already in the future.

This is horrible. I hate steam. Luckily I still have the Trilogy on Disc (although I never install the Tactics part).

Yeah I could never really get into Tactics. Not sure why.

When I tried it I felt lost. Like I was playing Doom or something, where I just got to explore instead of knowing what my quest is, I did the first map, which I felt was a tutorial, but then I was on the map and had no idea where to go. I'm pretty sure I just missed something important in the dialogs, but still, I couldn't get into it at that time. I'll try it again eventually, paying more attention, but right now I'm lacking time and when I get into a game I lose track of time; not good when I'm short on it.

Doom is awesome, modern FPS have lost the frantic rush of old-school titles like Doom. So much fun.

Well, yes, it's my favorite FPS ever. But feeling lost, and feeling like they just dropped you there without instructions aside from "try to keep alive" is a great feature in an FPS, but (IMO) not so much in an RPG. Consider that it's relatively linear, so you don't have too many options to think about. In your typical Fallout game, if you have no idea of what to do, you have too many options to randomly choose from.

Have you played Wasteland? You so would have completely hated this aspect of that game :D They give you pretty much 0 information. Create Party, OK Bye Have Fun!

Actually, I did START a game, felt lost, assumed there is some explaining in the manual but decided I didn't have the timeto read it just yet (I will eventually, so I can play it), so I left it. I also felt a bit guilty as I haven't bought it yet, I'd probably wait until I have a budget for games again before playing it. Anyway, I'm starting to regret what I said. I think it might be actually good in some RPGs too, but I don't know, I kind of expected having some kind of quest in the begining.

It's all good, I think it mostly depends on the gamer's life more than playing style. If I had tons of time to just play games, I wouldn't mild the totally-not-linear ones. But if you have like 2 hours to game a week, you don't want to spend it wandering around

Yeah, well, a point to my rush with it was that I was actually just trying all of the original Fallouts for the first time, and I was hooked on FO2 already. I told myself "I can't lose my time wandering here, Arroyo NEEDS me!"
And then never touched Tactics again.

I've started FOT (I gave it another chance after several years) by the end of December and just finished 5th mission. I never got this far in any of my numerous tries since 2001. Once you get so far... it's quite good despite some things I cannot understand... Like why the hell appearal of characters (and their voices) does not (but totally) correspond with their pictures (heads).

Also, there is a number of bugs in maps where you can target enemies (and they can target you) through walls.
