Fallout 1.5 installation problem

gas brake honk

First time out of the vault
I can't get the Resurrection mod to work. The mod installation instructions stated that it has the 1.02 patch within it, so I installed the mod on top of a completely fresh game install from the CD.

When I run fores.exe, I get the different intro movie, but the title screen and the three starting characters look the same. After starting a game, I get a grey screen. I can still hear the typical background music, and I can bring up the menu. But I can't do anything else.

I found a couple of threads with people who had experienced this problem. Based on that, I added fores.exe as an exception to my antivirus software. I also made sure my Fallout2 folder had the correct things in it:

No luck. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Wait, I don't remember there being any kind of installation instruction for this mod, or how there's any mention of '1.02 patch within it'. The download page for the mod simply stated that all you'll need beforehand is a full installation of Fallout 2, and that's it. The page didn't mention whether or not the full installation can be a fresh game install from the CD or has to be a version you can get from Steam/GOG, which is probably the 'normal' version nowadays, but you shouldn't have any problem. And all you need to do is run the installer, direct it to your Fallout 2 installation folder, and when it's all good to go, open the Resurrection folder in Fallout 2 folder, and run the game from the .exe there.

If you've actually done as I've described above, then

I think this is a problem of your .ini files not properly configured for your PC. Follow this guide on how to configure your hires_patch.ini and ddraw.ini files by agris from RPGCodex. By following that guide, you can configure the resolution of the game to look how it's meant to be played by the devs of Fallout 2 at the time of release, while properly scaled to whatever native resolution of your monitor is. While it's not exactly the intended purpose by agris, following that guide actually makes my game run very smoothly with very little technical problems.
