Fallout 2 - Can't exit Westin Ranch, NCR

Like what? There are two kinds of suggestions here: ones that apply to people who use unofficial stuff {Killap's patch, no-CD crack et c} and ones that apply to people who are stuck INside, and therefore can interact with the device controlling the forcefield. I thought it was clear enough from my initial post, but sinse i dare not assume that you didn't pay any attention at all while reading it, i guess it was indeed not clear, so i'll reiterate:

* The only patch affecting my game is the official one.
* I am OUTSIDE the ranch, seeking to get IN.

Any inout, please? Preferably from someone more interested in helping than in finding an excuse to feel irked?
 
Did you save and reload before entering the ranch? What you are describing is a known bug in the original game.

I never entered the ranch. That's the problem.

Right, well that still didn't answer my question whether you save and reloaded the game before entering the ranch (it doesn't matter whether you did in fact enter, but rather whether you saved and reloaded before attempting to)

In any event, I have 3 scripts from my patch which should probably fix your issue.

Just download this file and extract the 3 files inside to the Fallout2\data\scripts folder.

To answer your question: i saved just before trying, and at a later time i tried again, so i loaded from that place.

EDIT:
Now i feel like an idiot, but i just discovered i don't have a Scripts folder. *blink*. My Data folder has the folders Maps {empty}, Proto {contains Critters and items, both empty}, Savegame, Sound and the file Worldmap.dat :oops: I use a Humongous installation, so nothing should be missing...
Do i just create the Scripts folder and put those three in, then?
 
If I remember things correctly, the reason you don't have a script folder is because you don't use the unofficial patch, the official patch stores them in a .dat file instead.
Just create the script folder as you suggested and see what happens, if it don't work you can just remove it again, no harm done.
 
This does not work for me. I dont know if this means the patch never worked but SAYS it worked. I am displeased with life if that were so.

99.98% of all people getting this game since October are buying it cheap on STEAM. It makes it really hard to get both high res patch working and any recommendations on this forum. all walkthroughs for patching are filled with holes when you buy the steam version.

EDIT:

I see the rock on the ground at beginning of game... yet it shows no patch version info... yet it's from the patch as it isnt there normally...

First off, your recent posts don't belong in the Tech area since you are using a modded version of the game.

Now, highlighting the patch should display text in the info window. What happens when you mouse over the rock? If there was an error with the install you would see the rock but the word "Error" would appear in the info window.

Another way to test that the patch is working is to go to Klamath and talk with Maida (ie Mrs. Buckner’s daughter). Ask her what other towns are nearby. She should then say that Redding is to the southeast rather than southwest. If she doesn't say this then the patch did not install.
 
Holy crap that's an odd way to test but I will.

modded? does anyone play the non-unofficial patch? I think everyone on here is a geek. no?

Ok I read all the posts already but still don't understand how to fix the problem. I am having the same problem right now, and i'm not much of a computer wiz and have very little understanding of data files and such. So could someone help me? I am stuck outside the gate and the cop asks me if I want to see Mr. Westin again and I say Yes, and he goes to the monitor and comes back but nothing happens. So could someone help me? Much would be appreciated!
