Fallout 2 Companions

Chromevod

Nope.
So, I'm going through my latest play through of FO:2, and it's made me wonder, who do you take as companions if any?

The group I've got currently is Cassidy, Sulik, Marcus, and Lenny. I know Lenny isn't exactly a strong combatant, but he serves as a decent medic, and with a .223 pistol he can contribute in fights without blowing me to bits. And I just like Lenny for some reason.

I personally tend to stick with a gun squad so I get sulik with an SMG and later a .223 Pistol, Vic with a hunting rifle and later a gauss rifle, and cassidy with a combat shotgun.

I avoid lenny as I never had the need for a medic with the exception of the Bessy quest in modoc, and Marcus's gatling gun always causes trouble with spray so I don't get him unless I want him as my only companion and give him a gatling laser, later a vindicator. Marcus might be handy with a powerfist if you're wanting a HTH guy though.

I like to keep Myron around for a while because he's hilarious but in the later combat-intensive areas I park him somewhere accessible. Goris is pretty good but his robe animation at the start and end of combat is very tiring and IMO not worth the frustration.

I never really messed with the robodogs or skynet as at the point I get them I always already have a badass squad and they just take up space and get in the way.

My typical team :

Marcus : as he tends to be a pretty slow walker, he's always far away when the fight begins (unless you're willing to wait for him), so I give the YK42B Pulse Rifle, at some point he's able to shoot twice in a row with it. He's a good help with that weapon. I tell him to "snipe the ennemy".

Sulik : I give him a H&K P90c and I choose in his combat options to attack at point-blank range... 90% of the time, it's devastating for the ennemy. When he has reached a good level, he can also shoot twice.

Cassidy : When I have access to the San Francisco bunker, I give him the YK32 Pulse Pistol and when I finally have enough money or when I've killed an Enclave trooper, I give him the M72 Gauss Rifle. He can also shoot twice.

An effective crew if you ask me.

Sulik, Vic and Cassidy. But I remember having the most fun when I brought Myron with me, letting him use as much drugs as he wanted to and going for the "Charge!" command. Dude does stuff no other follower will do.

I'm changing my companions pretty frequently, due to my non-charismatic Chosen One. (CHA 4)
One more thing, I cannot play with Sulik anymore, because there is living a real person with the same name in Slovakia. It's one of our politicians in fact.

I like to set up a base of operations where I have lots of storage for my surplus gear. What I do with companions is recruit everyone I find, take them to the base, then dismiss the ones I don't actually want traveling with me. That way, I can leave Myron behind and return to the base when I want, re-recruit him, and take advantage of his skills, like making stimpaks. Take the best combat NPCs with you and leave the others behind.

Usually end up with Vic (because I'm too lazy to shoot him), Sulik (just a reserve), Cassidy, Marcus and SkyNet. I love Marcus because he's pretty handy to mow down a large amount of enemies (especially if they're packed together, a little luck and anywhere from 2 to 3 can die from a burst).

SkyNet, is, well, SkyNet. I don't know the handiest weapon he's good with, so he ends up with a .223 pistol.

To be honest, I'm too lazy to buy any of my companions proper equipment, and they usually just get the loot. There's plenty of it in presents, encounters and simple firefights I start in every casino, bar and village.

I found Myron to be pretty capable with energy pistols, just don't let him catch you in his line of sight. I would love to give him drugs but... I'm not sure if the RP fixes companions never recovering from addiction. (can anyone confirm?)
Sulic with a p90 or a G11 set to charge and never run away is... amazing. I swear I've seen him run halfway across a battlefield with enough APs to still do 2 bursts.

Well, with my current game (killap's patch is installed) my group is currently set up as such.

Myself: Combat armor and a Laser Rifle
Cassidy: Combat armor and a Gauss Rifle
Sulik: Combat armor and a Super Sledge
Marcus: Super mutant metal armor and Vindicator Minigun
Lenny: Metal armor mk II and .223 pistol.

It took a LOT of Hubologists to outfit everyone with what I wanted. It was absolutely worth it when Marcus killed Kaga, did something like 300 damage with that minigun.

Anyway, my low endurance character needs to try and keep enemies decently far away to survive, and that supersledge has nice knockback.

It does not, and by the way it's only Jet addiction that is permanent.
I tried to fix it the other day, but just couldn't find a good enough way. I can reset his jet addiction by using the antidote just fine, but the problem is that they can have several addictions at the same time, and if they do and I reste it, the stats will get all messed up.
