Good news for Russian Fallout fans, the Russian company 1C has announced it has finished localization of Fallout 2. It was released to Russian stores the 19th of May:
The cult role playing game, which is justly considered one of the standard-setting games of its genre. Fallout 2 is set on earth, which survived a nuclear catastrophe. A large part of humanity perished, and the surviving people lost all accumulated knowledge and gradually return to the Stone Age.
Link: Fallout 2 page on 1c

Yeah, pretty amusing, isn't it? 8 years have past and these proud guys think they can give people something better than the original version. Bah.

I had the Russian pirated version of Fallout 2 for like five years now.. Yes, it was 100% Russian, aside from the talking heads.

If this is the beginning of a trend of porting old games to run on win2k/xp, then I'm all in favor of it. Otherwise, fuggedaboudit. If Interplay opensourced Fallout 2 we'd have a crossplatform, stable, russian localization within months.

Oh, and am I the only one who's confused by the announcement that it will be released a month ago?

the only question is
why do they make the announcement in english?
it's not like the target audience is going to be able to decipher it, if they haven't played the game already

Actually, we had 2-3 pirated versions of Fallout 1-2 back in 1997-1998. We get accustomed to the translation which wasn't so bad at all. Yeah, it had cut some voices and other stuff but it was cool to play anyway.

All this is made on the threshold of F3 comming. That's it.

Hah, funny, I somehow mistook the date despite the fact that I typed it over correctly.

Silly. That hardly makes it news, then, but meh.

Well, considering this is a place where we frown down upon piracy rather heavily, for us at least a genuine Russian localization is a good thing, and shows yet another revival in interest.

Pirating is bad, by the way.

...and that fact it sucks a big time doesn't bother you :)?

PS. pirating is good for common people. We don't have enough money to spend here for such things as games. I understand that developers must earn money... but those prices are not for common russian or ukrainian gamer. So let it be. For a while at least.

Well this is interesting ... a bit late but interesting

Ps. my first ever fallout game was in russian and a long time ago by the way .... oh and the funny part i dont even understand russian :D

The Russian situation is different because of the lack of civil intellectual property laws. In other words, it's more a problem on a governmental level than on individual morality.

But understand that this is a Western site on a gaming network. For us the situation is a lot more black and white, and piracy is a simple crime with little to no excuses for it.

It's a pity that Russia, probably the biggest Fallout country after the USA, is so crippled through illegality, fanwise. Don't expect Bethesda to even care slightly about Russian fans as far as sales are concerned. Nobody ever cares about Russian sales; there are none.

Judging by the number local of fan sites, or the number of Admins on large international sites?;)

Here some info to clarify the situation  .

PS. yeah, btw, I don't really care about Russia because i'm ukrainian :). Nevertheless, we have the same problems with the intellectual property.
