and writing a converter for decompiled Fallout scripts to Python sounds doable to me as well. In the end it comes down if there are enough interested people to make it happen. The zen-master says: we'll see Smile


You can show the syntax of the scripts python.

Loading FO maps worked in the past before the maploader was rewritten. The new maploader is geared towards our own map format but the old code is still around in the SVN history so readding support should not be that complicated IF somebody does it ;-)

The same goes for FRM support. I don't even know if it currently works. Again somebody would need to test and see if it works and if not reimplement it. The Fallout file formats are rather well documented (thanks to teamx and the translators of the Fallout modding wiki) so it's certainly possible.

As the engine is not limited to Fallout-like games, scripting is not geared towards these games either. You would need to design a scripting API on the top of the current FIFE API. The most important advantage is that you got the chance to fix serious flaws of FO scripting this way. The biggest disadvantage is that API design is quite complicated to people who haven't worked in this field yet.

But in the end it does not really matter. The only chance to see it happen is if somebody who has the programming background is willing to give it a shot.

Just goes to show how little time I've spent here re3cently.

Obviously having the sourcecode would be handy, but we all know we're never going to get it, so we have to put our faith in other areas.

Failing that, we could just playing f1 and f2 again. :D
 
Yeah we will never get the source thats true, so we must build an engine emulator for fallout, ind i am think also that fife is the best method for it. I am not very well at progtramming, but i am learning fast, so guys when somebody intrested to start this project feel free to pm me. Cause a new engine is the first step to mod easily and better in the future. You can see it on Fonline (but they wont share her client).

So i hope really some talented guys will give a try to it. Because bymyselve i cannot make it.
