Fallout 2 troubles

Thanks for the script!!! I was going to be very disappointed if I couldn't finish the game due to this bug so your script really saved me. With it - as soon as I get in the vault I'm presented with the last conversation I had with Gruther (about how it couldn't be avoided blah blah).

Hello,

due to the lack of decent games I started playing Fallotu 2 again. Unfortunately I killed Matt in Vault 13 and get the above mentioned crash on re-entering the Vault with the voice module. Apparently the site with the ocgrutha.int script file is down, so I would be very happy, if someone could supply me with an alternative link to this file.

...
Get Killap's patch. Which is exactly what's suggested in this thread.

Thank you for this advice, but the readme file states

NOTE: If this is the first time you have used my patch, then you will have to start a new game since previous save games will no longer work.

So I assume I have to start a new game, which kinda defies the point of circumventing this bug since I wanted the ucgrutha.int to avoid reloading an older save game where I had not yet killed Matt in Vault 13 which led to my problem.

Yes I figured that out, too, after taking a closer look at the patch :) Thanks a lot.

Is there a similar easy way to prevent the crash on entering the Military Base after blowing up the rocks? :P

My fallout 2 crashes rabdomly with the application error message i cannot read. It crashes when i am inside an inventory, in battle etc. The first sign that a crash is imminent is a strange mouse cursor: the mouse cursor won't change it's appearance even though i enter or exit battle mode, or it would show two cursors superimposed. However, this thing doesn't always happen before a crash, sometimes the crash is unexpected.

I have FO2 human-gus installation + killap 's patch, encounter booster, the patch that makes chars show the armor they are wearing and the ammo patch. However, this kind of crash occured with any combination of the above patches and with no patch present.

I get quite a few random crashes using only the official patch. I think the game just isn't entirely stable, so it's kind of a way of life. I've never had the cursor problem you describe though. Anyway, I save a lot, and keep backups of older saves just in case. My advice is to pay attention to what was going on when the game crashed and see if it happens again. If not, you can probably mark it up to bad luck.

I've had some fugly issues with an entirely black screen except for the few hexes around my character when entering a new area. No idea what causes it. Quick save/load usually fixes it, but sometimes I have to go back to an older save. Just general FO weirdness I s'pose. Always happens in the Den, and randomly in other places.

I've had the black screen issue as well. It's like the game 'forgets' to load the images. They'll appear as you move around; I just scroll to one side and back, which makes them all show up.

I'm on a Mac, so I expected to get all the bugs and mistakes in the data files. What really impresses me is that they seem to have ported all the engine bugs too.

That's it. I can't take it anymore. The game eventually crashes every time i play it. Guess i'll have to build a computer from scratch to play this game. Would a 486 or Pentium 1 or 2 computer with win98 be ok?

Have you tried re-installing Windows? That often fixes inexplicable bugs and crashes.

Interplay's minimum requirements are:
The Win95 version requires:
Pentium-90 [MHz]
16 megs of RAM
DirectX 3.0a or 5.0
2x CD-ROM drive
SVGA
DirectSound compatible sound card.
