Fallout 3 alternative universe

First time out of the vault
Ok there are so many holes in the story (or at least i don't get it), that i decided to find some plausible answers but unless the story get's changed i can't find answers.

So here is my alternative fallout story ( i know that there are other topics about it but i decided not to hijack them ;) )

It takes place in a somewhat alternative universe where history as we know it changes dramatically at the end of the 19th century. People discover electricity a lot earlier than our world and by 1920 the majority of cities have electricity as we know it today. They use coal and petrol power plants tho and those resources are almost dried out. WW1 and WW2 don't take place in this universe. Major conflicts still occur mainly in europe that help advance the war industry forward. In mid 40s a breakthough happens: Nuclear power. A great energy source that could make petrol obsolete. But uranium is not so common in this universe and although scientists manage to create a lot of nuclear powered devices, from cars to energy weapons and armor, the world is still depending on fossil fuels. This and years of hating between various political ideals leads to an unstable world where in the late 50s someone got to press the little red button...

In US some people knew that a nuclear war would destroy the planet as various nuclear bomb tests and early accidents had showed. So they made underground vaults in order to protect humanity.

Around 50 years later you emerge from vault 101.

Just my opinion.

and if i make a mod it will be based on this.

Any loose end? Ideas?

The ancient Greeks knew 'electricity'. They knew it thanks to amber (static electricity). Egyptians knew 'electricity' thanks to electric eels and such. The Baghdad Batteries could be proof that it was already being used as a source of energy for electroplating somewhere between 250-450.
So basically: people discovered 'electricity' long, long, long ago. They weren't as quick to invent any practical uses for it, though.

better now? :p

Thanks for the history lesson ;)

If you poke around in other places, the Fallout universe is already established as a vaguely alternate timeline. I believe the distinction was fusion power was discovered while the miniaturization of computers (transistors? I forget) did not occur as it did for us. This is intended to explain the retro looking tech yet the existence of a lot of high energy tech, along with the lack of real world weaponry.

Fallout has always been an alternate timeline, a period when culturally we stayed stuck in the 50's even if technology progressed another 120 years. That's why you had cars with fusion engines and huge tail fins, robot sentries, and no rock music. I thought that was established in all the games.

They dicovered it, or they took it from someone else, that's why they didn't know how to even re-create it, because someone else made it and knew what it is for...

nevermind :)
