Fallout 3 at E3 - RPGFan and GamersInfo

Fallout 3 begins in Vault 101, one of the iconic vaults of the series,

Man, the things I missed while playing the first two games.

To be fair I think that means that Vault 101 is a Vault and the Vaults are iconic in the series.
Though it is poorly worded.

Because that's what robots do when there's been no war.

It seems that Bethesda's vision of Fallout's 2077 was run by psychopaths intent on constructing an Orwellian nightmare.
I don't even want to think what the penalty is for not presenting exact change on a bus.

In the original Fallout, it was turn-based using a system called “VATS.”
...
I nearly started crying when i read that...

I sure do hope that it can't get any worse than this(by "this" I don't mean that quote. I mean all of this shit!). No, wait! It can! And it WILL!

Ok, come on, stay calm, it's not like you're whole family is getting killed and your house incinerated... look at the bright side: it could be even worse!

Your family being killed by VATS slow-mo insta gib head shots?

Hmm the dialogue sounds a lot better than Oblivion, but the lack of an intelligence modifier is a retrostep in Fallout terms. Still I guess it's a small step in the right direction, if they pull it off. How many characters will have choice/consequence dialogue though? They could have the Fargoth scenario all over again, with it only having an impact on a few select characters. The idea of it telling you your chance too is silly, makes it sound more like a mini game...

I'm pleased stats will affect accuracy generally, but at the same time I found that to be insanely annoying in DeusEx early on, and VTMB pretty much all the way through. It feels un natural in first person shooting someone in the face, point blank, and seeing a bullet impact nowhere near.... meh

The cinematic part sounds very stupid, out of body experiences destroy immersion - which is the whole reason they chose FPP in the first place, right? Heh - combat in VATS could be even slower than tb if you have to see a slo-mo cinematic every time you shoot something :P

Am I the only person who thinks of Robocop when they talk about the ticket line robots?

Except, instead of scrapping the project, they deployed them as ticket handlers...

Always felt sorry for poor Kenny :(

What kind of an idiot was Dick Jones for demonstrating the robot with live ammo anyway? :P
Though for that reason he's probably one of Todd's heroes. Lol lazer armed ticket collektors!

Plus, when using VATS, you get cinematic! Instead of being completely focused in the first person’s must shoot it out with mutant, you get a brief dramatic movie of your actions as you fight it out!

That's like Manhunt. Nothing new here, move along, move along..

I'm extremely concerned about the goodie-goodie, evil or neutral choices, the playing it cool or being obnoxious.

I WANT A REASON FOR MAKING THOSE CHOICES. I want 'evil' to be morally justifiable so it's just a different way of doing the same situation. I want obnoxious to be justified by the actions of the person I'm talking to.

Everything I've seen so far has shown that Bethesda has got all this WRONG. That they're giving choices, but they're defined into good and evil and somewhere in between.

This would make the game fail as even a FO spinoff.

Secondly, VATS - still worried about this making the game uber-easy.

But, I am looking the bright side. This isn't yet the worst thing, because they have something even worse to come! Yes, I am one of those "glass-half-empty" people.

Just wanted to let you guys know...

I was the guy who wrote the GamersInfo article.

The VATS comment was a complete brain fart on my part. As I mention in my correction on the site, I have the manual for the original Fallout sitting on my desk - at home, where I'd left it.

As for the Vault issue, well - same thing. Been a long, long time since I played the original Fallout. It didn't help that they kept saying in the demo how they were "recreating the Vault as it was in the original Fallout" or something to that effect.

Not trying to divert blame off of me. Just saying. I never hesitate to admit when I do screw up. :D

Anyways...thanks for reading.

(PS - I know ants go nuts when their antenna are blown off! I read it in one of Michael A. Stackpole's Dark Conspiracy books and those are obviously factually accurate in every way! :D :D)

Ok all is explained, don't worry, any more stories from the presentation? The juicy ones, of course :wiggle:

we can forgive you for falling victim to the high-dollar hype that bethesda is spreading around.
Mostly because you can admit you were momentarily taken by it.

:)

They almost had me for a second there too!
Then I saw the previews that came shortly atfer the trailer and snapped out of it.
