Fallout 3 Location

Xeper

First time out of the vault
Now i know this isn't a brightest idea or a question to ask, but for curiosity sake i just wanna know your opinion, what if action in fallout 3 would take place in a diffrent continent :?:

I don't think it would be as interesting for north american gamers, but I bet people would like the game a lot more if it was set near their home town or in their local country.

My brother and I used to toss around the idea of the FO online game being set based on locale servers globally so that everybody could play in the radioactive wasteland that was their own backyard.

I hear mmo's are very popular around here so I'm gonna put on my cup. Bring it.

I personaly want to see what happen after we last left the
wasteland in fallout 1&2. I realy don't want to leave (I am from
Norway)

They have build up something, I realy don't want to leave that.
Then they could make another game if we should leave everything
we know. No keep it where we are, maybe expand the map, but
I realy don't want to start the game and start out in russia or china.

I agree , it would be sort of wierd to play Fallout 3 on a other continent.

I wouldnt mind it if it were set in England (my homeland). I can imagine places like Big Ben becoming fortified Enclaves.

In Fallout 2, you take a boat to reach the Enclave.
So, Fallout 3 could start in the former US ( wasteland aso ), continue in Europe and finish ( or just continue again ) in... The Wasteland !
But if not, it doesn't disturb me.

I'd like it if they took a shitload of time and had the game span the entire north americal continent.

Doubt that will be done though, so I jsut hope they do it well, though I doubt they wiill.

Hey, you can make Fallout 3 span the entire globe without sacrificing quality!

How?

By having one town per continent.

heh, agreed, and I'm from norway to...

It would be kinda cool to see norway after a nuclear war, but I jjust love all the towns in the previus fallouts....some of them anyway...

Okay. You can have "tons of town per small region" all over the globe without sacrificing quality.

A typical town would then have to consist of one-room house and NPC who can only say "Hye!".

Oh, you can, but only with an awful lot of developers and a development time of a couple of decades.

I could see Beth soft doing it.... I mean just to check out their work I bought Morrowind from a discount bin (2 bucks) and damn it's fucking huge.

Now I don't want FO3 to be like Morrowind, obviously, but I could see them making it just as large (especially if they replace the concept of having to walk from town to town with a fallout-style map-travel system, so they have more resources available to spend on locations.)

Heh, reminds me a little bit of Arcanum. See, I would have been perfectly fine with the sprawling city of Tarant and the other major cities. But Troika decided to make as much use of their spanning continent by putting as many locations into it. Unfortunately, some of these locations were decidedly sub-par. For instance, one of the locations consisted of a small pit, the ladder to enter said pit, two snakes, and a magick ring. Another location had the corpse of a wizard in a ring of mushrooms surrounded by Kree. Rather than add to the vibe of the setting, these spots just had me scratching me head.

The one place outside of North America that I could see Fallout 3 taking place in is mainland China. Why? For starters, China was the aggressor in the war that lead to the nuclear holocaust. They certainly took missiles up and down their east coast (densest population levels) as well as along their southern border. Furthermore, the existence of San Francisco indicates that a lot of pre- and post-war tech is still around in China. There are a lot of good plot tie-ins that could happen there.

Of course, this is just speculation. I'll have to consult the Fallout Bible.

Dibujante

*raises eyebrow*
No, it doesn't. The Shi never came from post-war China, they came from a pre-war Chinese submarine that got stranded during and after the nuclear attacks. This doesn't have anything to do with the technological level of post-war China.

Hi ! To be precise, tou don't need to "walk from town to town" in Morrowind.
You can run or swim (that will increase your athletic ),you can fly, take a boat or a silt strider (instant travel) and finally, you can teleport in various ways.
What I like in that is the choice.
Maybe it would be nice to have that kind of choice in FO3.

*blinks*
Choice how? You have your own vehicle, but the world has been destroyed. There won't be any transportation services around, at the most a train service re-instated, so choice simply wouldn't be logical.

Imagination man !
It could be a restored train line controled by a faction.
An helicopter (like the Enclave ones).
A plane, a boat, a submarine, a space shuttle, a horse (restored by genetic engineering, a chip controlled brahmin or deathclaw...
It could an experimental military teleportation device, a flying power armor, a tank, a robot, and so on forever...
The alternative would be to walk or run in the wasteland with the hope to find secret/ well hiden locations and have more random encounters.

Riiiiiight. The only viable option would be a brahmin-pulled cart. The rest doesn't fit Fallout at all, or won't fit the locations (a boat in the wastes?).
And the "helicopter" as you call it won't work, because only the Enclave has those, and they're not about to give them away.
