Fallout 3 resurrected, no really?!

ehh so they want an outside developer to work on whats already done so far and make it into a complete game? How's that work? Isn't it hard to work on other people's code and get the deal straight. Or are they just gonna debug whats done, and release a crappy loosely tied together mess. I see it as nothing to get excited about until more comes up.

I don't think so, next to technical problems with someone working with a strange (and increasingly old, sadly) engine, I don't think Iplay is allowed to give away the engine under their license...not that Caen cares much for breaking agreements (or the law)

I'd guess they'd pass on some of the design documents, and let someone start from there, with their own engines. But Caen wasn't exactly clear or elaborate on this

... I am not a game industry expert and my question may sound stupid - this outside developer.. could it not be the zombie-BIS as a not direct part of the IPLY? I am not sure how strong is the IPLY & zombie-BIS dependency

My guess is that BIS no longer exists because every member will have found employment elsewhere by now.
The outside developer will perhaps take over some code from what BIS created and use it for their 'own' game. I'm not really an experienced programmer, but I find it pretty hard to understand other people's code (especially in case it's hardly documented). Take a look at the recently released Counterstrike: Condition Zero. The game's been delayed for several years and changed from developer 3 times. It would've been far better if they'd created it from scratch instead of basing it on old code.
But that's my 2 cents ;).

Fuck Interplay. Now the game is going to suck big time, because cheap as they are, they're going to sell it to a choppy cheesy fucktarded developer who's going to pay a lot, e.g EA.

This is so old. Fallout developed by someone other than BIS just isn't Fallout. Call it whatever you want, but not Fallout. Don't get your hopes up, you'll just get disappointed.

I would expect it to be a similar thing to Fallout tactics. it's called fallout, looks like fallout etc, but just isn't fallout.
While i enjoyed playing Fallout tactics it wasn't quite the same experience as the first two, which is most likely going to happen again.

I would rather not play FO3 at all than play some game called Fallout 3 developed by some guys who know nothing about the FO world.

If the game comes out it will surely be the end of Fallout. All I hope is that Troika grabs the opportunity and makes a whole new post-pocalyptic game.

I was going to write something else about the probability of the game actually being good, but chances are slim to none.

Yeah, and even if it's a success it's gonna be the end of Fallout as we know and love it.
I don't hold much buck hoping for Fo4
If Caen doesn't get a sudden "Saint"-injection, Fo3 will be the end of the line.

But, we shouldn't get our panties in a bundle, just yet.
Let us see what's behind door number one first, the announcement.
Oh well, as long as Caen's the one doing the announcement, we'll at least get a good laugh :)

I sorta hope this is the last Fallout, and that it is really good(eventhough the situation is sorta shady). I don't want Fallout to be a Final Fantasy type cash cow.

I could easily see that happening. :? Given the situation Interplays in. Eventhough they are more likely to do that with BG games.

More than likely, the code would definitely not be passed on. But from what I've read the engine was complete/near complete. Depending on exactly how complete that actually is, it could be worked with without too many problems arising.

IMO though, the only thing that has a chance of being passed on to the dev team would be the design docs. Which would mean that if the docs were followed, we would get the original FO3 without the BIS developed engine. I don't think this would necessarily be a bad thing if and only if the docs were followed to the letter.

But who knows, Caen's a nincompoop cockbiting f---tard so I'm not getting my hopes up until I can see how things are going with it's development.

Everyone here seems to be convinced that the FO3 from BIS would have been totally great although a lot of the key development members of the first two FOs haven't been involved. If Troika or Obsidian would skip the existing design docs I wouldn't care. All we heard about Van Buren sounded good so far but I believe that these studios could do something great on their own, maybe even better. Well, in case of Silver Style I would hope they sticked to the design docs.

For you that have lost hope

Making a good sequel doesn't mean that FO3 has to be developed by the original team
- REMEMBER SYSTEM SHOCK 2? -
A fine example of that - nobody had never heard of the team that made it and still they managed to make it better than the original.

Yes, this is a rare exeption but there's always a chance. :!:

Heh...Herve knows that anytime someone mentions Fallout, and expecially Fallout 3, people get into a frenzy like this.

If it can work for Carsten "Say Something About Fallout Weekly to Get Fans Drooling" Strudel, Herve took a shot.

Frankly, Interplay needs money, and those with the highest probability to get it right with their talent don't yet have the money to be able to afford the Fallout price tag. Most likely Herve just said it to try and get stock prices to rise. Well, after the rest said at the stockholder meeting, the stocks fell, showing yet another aspect to Herve Caen's incompetence.

It's actually a bit more hopeful in this way: Fallout is a marketable name purely because of the hardcore, intelligent, knowledgable fans it's built up over the years. FOBOS flopped because the fans hated it. If FO3 were to be made, it would have to be marketed towards us, the fans, us we're the ones who'd buy it on name recognition. Hence if it gets screwed up by going to EA or something, it won't actually sell, unless it does something like the new Thief game is doing and pretending the first two titles don't exist.

Sort of like FOBOS? Ignored the first two titles?
