Albuquerque Journal.
The game is part shooter, part turn-based role-playing game.

As an immersive experience, Fallout 3 provides a deep joyride in a cold, stark world. It is the best game of 2008 to date.
ABC News.
The bleak and amazingly detailed post-apocalyptic world of Fallout 3 is possibly the biggest and most dynamic yet to appear on a next-generation video game console. An epic story that literally begins at the character's birth is poignant and massive. Tons of sidequests and subplots offer almost limitless adventures that will keep players engaged for weeks.

If Fallout 3 were limited to just the game's massive main story and many side-stories, it might be enough to make it a great game, but unique combat features in addition to traditional ones and the depth of character customization, allowing players to create an experience that suits them perfectly, add that little something extra that make it a video game masterpiece.
CriticalFrag, 3.2 (of 4?).
So, how does the third installment stand up to the previous two? Well, as I had stated in my preview of the game, there are some similarities and many differences. The main thing is to realize that this is not a butchering of a classic, but a different perspective and taking the series in a new direction. Some may like it and others not so much, but after playing around and taking in what Bethesda set out to accomplish, I think they did a fine job. I'll have to ding the game some points on the fact that the PC version is a console port and the constant lockups/crashes that seem too caused by audio configurations (yes, drivers are up to date).
Gameolosophy, 10/10.
Fallout 3 is the latest game by Bethesda Game Studios the makers of Oblivion, one of the most famous fantasy RPG games ever. Fallout shines in every aspect you can think of. Easy gameplay, good story and amazing graphics. Fallout 3 is certainly worth picking up if you are looking for hours of interesting gameplay.

So I strongly recommend getting this game as it is no doubt the best game of 2008.
Bikoyski's Site blog, 1.5 (of what?).
This is a game for fans of Fallout not to pass up- an opportunity not to be missed. With cool landscapes, lifelike characters, more dialogue, more stuff, more creatures to kill I say why not.
GamingIndians.
Combat is another standout feature of Fallout 3. It is extremely well designed and addictive. Combining turn based and real time combat is not an easy task but Bethesda has somehow managed to pull it off.

As a highly anticipated RPG title, Fallout 3 delivers on all fronts, but the real question is does it live up to the standards set by the previous games? A lot of Fallout purists may be turned off by the “oblivionisation” of the game. Many will feel that it has been dumbed down to appeal to larger audience. And to a certain extent, it is true. Fallout 3 is a lot more accessible than its predecessors and you don’t actually even need to be an RPG enthusiast to be able to like the game.

However, appealing to a broader audience is not a bad thing, especially in Fallout 3’s case. This is a game that should be played by every self-respecting gamer whether you like RPGs or not.
Sphinx's Sanitarium blog.
Personally, I would have preferred keeping all this chance to hit and critical hit dice rolling RPG garbage in the background more like Knights of the Old Republic did and let me focus on the true purpose of a game like this which is to get through the story and side quests.

So, I guess let us sum up here and call it a day. I did not like the combat system as it seems skewed towards using the VATS system, I did not like the main storyline which pulls a few too many bait and switches, and the color palette was something you could get off of an old 3-color RGB monitor. Oh yes, and the ending is complete shit.
DateyourGame’s Blog.
Overall if you liked or loved the previous 2 Fallout games then you shouldn’t be disappointed by this one even though I haven’t played the previous 2 am pretty much sure that this is a bigger ,richer and above all more bloodier game then the previous 2 , even if your a hardened explorer or recently got out of a vault yourself you’ll love the wastelands of DC .
CurryPopTart blog, 9.5/10.
Fallout 3 does a great job of incorporating a great story with good action. There is very little downside to this game as pretty much everyone will be pleased with atleast some aspect of it. Whether you’re an RPG fan or like an action game with a riveting story, its all here.

Fallout 3 is a step in a new direction for video games and hopefully other developers can step it up to crank out even more quality story and plot.
Xbox Gaming, 9.3/10.
So all in all, is Fallout 3 worth getting in this time of great games? Without a doubt I'd have to say yes. Like Far Cry 2, it's a game that will need your full attention and will ask you to help create its story while giving you the ability to experience a world that is unique amongst RPGs. You'll sink up to 100 hours in the Wastelands and if you're willing to leave your vault you won't look back with any regrets about purchasing it. Bethesda have outdone themselves and added another unique chapter to one of the most endearing gaming franchises out there.

An epic story that literally begins at the character's birth is poignant and massive.

I've noticed more than one writer has a problem applying the word "literally" in a correct and meaningful manner.

However, appealing to a broader audience is not a bad thing, especially in Fallout 3’s case.

The Fallout franchise especially is suitable for dumbing down?

This is a game that should be played by every self-respecting gamer whether you like RPGs or not.

This reminds me of when everyone got Billy Bob's Cricket Challenge '02 because a reviewer said everyone should get it regardless of whether they like cricket, sports sims, or computer games.

Fallout 3 is a step in a new direction for video games

Your face is a step in a new direction for video games.

(None of these is the loony, by the way.)

What?

And ABC News??!!

Wat?

You're going to have to give a better hint. There are numerous things that seem completely loony to me in many of these reviews.

Are these people playing the same FO3 I played?

They must have the rare and powerful Fallout 3: Good Version.

Our inferior gamer minds couldn't possibly handle the greatness so Bethesda gave us the lower rung.

This makes me want to hurt someone.

My vote is for the DateYourGame blog...

If I was trying to mock Fallout 3 boosters I couldn't do a better job. Frankly I bet it's an NMA plant :)

My looney vote goes to.... Bikoyski's Site!

Others are great too, though:

If Fallout 3 were limited to just the game's massive main story and many side-stories, it might be enough to make it a great game...

...allowing players to create an experience that suits them perfectly, add that little something extra that make it a video game masterpiece.

I'm guessing they assume that a bloody shoot-em-up is "an experience that suits everyone perfectly". What's the world coming to?

Fallout 3 is the latest game by Bethesda Game Studios the makers of Oblivion, one of the most famous fantasy RPG games ever.

Uh, so it's Oblivipn that's the "bset and most famos RPG game evaaa"?? :puke:

With cool landscapes, lifelike characters, more dialogue, more stuff, more creatures to kill I say why not.

Probably the only one he didn't lie about... :naughty: I say "why not" make a better game, Beth??

Combat is another standout feature of Fallout 3. It is extremely well designed and addictive.

:violent:

Fallout 3 is a lot more accessible than its predecessors and you don’t actually even need to be an RPG enthusiast to be able to like the game.

Yeah, you just need to lack brain matter >______<

Personally, I would have preferred keeping all this chance to hit and critical hit dice rolling RPG garbage in the background more

:violent: :violent: :violent:

Go play Halo, twit!

Overall if you liked or loved the previous 2 Fallout games then you shouldn’t be disappointed by this one even though I haven’t played the previous 2...

I sense lots of research here...

am pretty much sure that this is a bigger ,richer and above all more bloodier game then the previous 2

Which what, makes it better??

...hopefully other developers can step it up to crank out even more quality story and plot.

PLEASE don't, let this "quality story and plot" stand alone as a legend for the years to come...

So all in all, is Fallout 3 worth getting in this time of great games?

Guess some people are still optimistic... Or maybe just too high on crack...

Like Far Cry 2...

Like FC2, you're getting an overadvertised mediocre shooting game...

You need to buy another copy of the game so you can repair your first one.

Seriously, there are too many idiots on the internet.

Something needs to be done.

Honestly, Per? I understand people who have problems with liberal use of the word "literally" in modern-day context, but even dictionaries gave up the good fight (chiiiiiildren). I think it's about a century too late to stop the corruption of this word.

I still find it fascinating that so many of this so-called journalist don't know what turn based is.
It is embarassing.
That, and the way they try to 'out-superlative' one another as if they are applying for Pete Hines' job.

Strokers.

You know, I'm starting to think that the bloggers and the mainstream media reviews really believe their reviews of Fallout 3. If you didn't like any difficult games (which are typically the more polished ones) and you just played JRPGs or Spore or Viva Pinata or casual games, you might just think that this was one of the greatest games ever due to the large number of sidequests and the various ways of equipping/developing your character. You might not mind the odd animations or low-res textures because you haven't played most AAA games.

You are probably impressed with the bad voice acting because there is a lot of lines whereas most games you have played only have a couple of stock lines - "Let's Get 'Em" and "Retreat". You don't mind the game's bugginess because you won't know if it's just your computer or not and anyway if your save gets corrupted you would be just as happy starting over to explore the wasteland anew.

Of course ignorance is no excuse when you are shooting your mouth off on the web, but it pales in comparison to the lack of objectivity shown by the hype-blinded game review sites and magazines. Most of those reviewers have played tons of modern games, and while I don't think that games should be judged solely upon their production values, games that purport to be AAA-immersive should have a couple of points shaved off if they fail to measure up to current standards. As for the gameplay I guess you could argue that some people like it, but if VATS has hitting issues is it really as polished as they claim?

Umm, anyone who just played and enjoyed a good JRPG will likely not like FO3 for a number of reasons, anywhere from bad main story to bad combat to low difficulty.

I'm just hypothesizing, I really don't know who these people with random blogs are, but most of them like Fallout 3 in spite of its faults. Which warrants examination since these bloggers aren't getting wined and dined by Bethesda. So are they suck ups, hype believers, or just naive?

Maybe the only RPGs they played before were JRPGs and they didn't like the style of gameplay and so they never finished them. Then they try Fallout 3 with its very different art style and gameplay and everything is easy and violent and they like it. That's all. No offense to those with a finely developed pallet towards JRPGs.
