Fallout Modding Sexiness

A few different updates worthy of your attention. First, NMA has done some resorting in its modding files, including updating old files but also including stickying all the "recommended mods and patches", so that people looking for their first mod will know where to begin. The list of stickies files essentially looks like this:
Fallout 1
Fallout 1 Children Patch
Fallout Patch 1.3.3 ENG TeamX
Fallout1 Resolution Patch v1.0
Fallout NPC Mod v3.3 English version
Fallout Update Mod v1.2.5 english version
Timeslip Fallout engine tweaks for Windows 2000/XP/Vista

Fallout 2
Fallout 2 Childrens Patch
Fallout2 Resolution Patch v1.3
Killap's Unofficial Fallout 2 Patch (US/UK - installer)
Fallout 2 Restoration Project Installer Version
MIB88 MegaMod 2.34
Timeslip Fallout 2 engine tweaks for Windows 2000/XP/Vista
Note that this isn't a recommendation for a list of files to install all together: MIB88's MegaMod conflicts with the Restoration Project, and both already include such things as the unofficial patch and resolution patch.

Speaking of which, Mash has updated his Resolution Patch to 1.3, while MIB88 updated the MegaMod to 2.34.

In new modding territory, Skynet brings us a mod (somewhat of a WIP) - that works only if you already installed the Restoration Project mod of killap - that adds Fallout 1's Harry as a recruitable NPC: Harry as NPC Mod 1.0.

In more WIP pieces, Jesterka brings us this loading screen from Fallout: Between Good and Evil:

And also dug out this beaut from Mutants Rising:

I cannot help it - even after all these years I still get the urge to play the games again, (and I have been at least once a year since they were released), when presented with tempting offers like this one ...

Nice wrap up.

Great lists. But, does anyone know what exactly should I install if I want to have the best experience in both games on my 3ghz C2D? So that it doesnt crash, random encounters work, mods work together, ending screens dont fade to black....etc.

For example, for FO1 can I install all of those to have the best version?

And for FO2, again, should I install resolution patch, restoration patch and timeslip tweaks and thats all? Because my version contains kids and megamod and unofficial patch are redundant with restoration pack?

Thanks for answers, I want to finish those games again (for the twelve times) before FO3 comes out - and this will be for the first time with the mods.

I had only one problem with Fallout on WinXP and I have dual core processor. You just need to turn off CTFMON process with the task manager and the game works perfectly with MegaMod installed. Didn't try it vanila though. Hope this helps.

On topic: Great list. Gotta play F1 again :)

A non Fallout 3 news - yeeha

@ Mod compilation lists

Good idea - this should be very helpful for people (who don't followed the mod development day for day) to choose which mod to play :)

@WIP pictures (BGE / MR):

Very nice work folks - keep up it up :)

btw. the flying rocket tank is awesome

Children patches right up the top. Is that a statement?

No, they're the oldest.

Restoration pack already includes timeslip's tweaks. I think it might include the resolution patch, I forgot.

Fallout 1; probably just TeamX's Fallout Update and NPC Mods. You can try adding Timeslip's tweaks and the resolution patch, but we can guarantee it won't conflict

I love the rocket thing. It is the first time for a long time that i recognise something that looks like fallout.

hallelujah! Some news not connected to Fallout 3! Not that I'm not waiting for F3, but after this E3 everyone should already have 101% of information they wanted to know about F3, who cares about a "yet another hands off/preview/ feature/interview on F3"?

hehe thanks for the kind comments ^^
the name "flying rocket tank" is more of a joke/sarcasm... its basically a 2-3 man space shuttle on transport tracks.... in case anyone didnt get it (probably not :D )

i'd like to take this opportunity to thank our modding community, yet again. (it appears to me that you can never do that enough!)

thanks for all the hard work guys.

(edit: typo. was a late night last night, errr morning, this morning)

Seconded. It's amazing that Fallout modding scene is still very active.

And I want to thank the people who make all of this possible, it's quite easy to overlook them. TeamX wrote a lot of useful documentation about the Fallout file formats, Kanhef & Dude101 are currently translating yet untranslated docs into English.

The work of these people is the basis that other more sophisticated Fallout projects (e.g. Timeslips planned Fallout engine project) can succeed at all. Keep up the good work!

For the record it's all Kanhef's work. I am trying to build an art an item DB on the Wiki now :)

I think FO modding is more active now than it ever has been :D
