Fallout New Vegas Cover Story in PC Gamer US

E.M.H.

First time out of the vault
EDIT: Curses! I just found a news story right after posting this. Please ignore this.

I just received the latest edition of PC Gamer US (It isn't even on the main PC Gamer website yet). I noticed that their cover story was on Fallout New Vegas. If this is old, I do apologize for cluttering the boards. Anyway, here is info I could gleam from it.

Disclaimer: I have not played the Fallout games, I just wanted to get this out because I couldn't find it anywhere else.

-Cover is a picture of NCR Ranger (they wear modified LAPD riot gear as armor and pack some heavy firepower) standing next to the famous Las Vegas sign- except now the sign has New where the Las was.

-You are a courier who is shot. You wake up in a town called Goodsprings

-Set three years after Fallout 3

-Giant mutant geckos return

-Melee combat- each weapon has an unlockable unique attack. One of these is the "Fore!" attack for the golf club

-Many factions- New California Republic and Caesar's Legion (slavers) are the main ones, but the Brotherhood of Steel, groups of super mutants (remnants of the Masters army from Fallout 1 and Fallout 2's Mariposa experiments), various gangs, caravan traders, and isolated communities of folks just trying to survive

-Reputation is very important, less emphasis on Karma

-Early on in the game Goodsprings is attacked by Powder Gangers (a band of escaped prisoners known for blowing things up with stolen gunpowder). If you help Goodsprings you get bonuses with them, like store discounts. If you help the attackers, the survivors will attack you on sight, hire mercenaries to track you down, or offer tribute to buy their safety.

-Faction relations are interconnected- if you anger one faction, you may anger their allies... or it will ingratiate you to their enemies

-Hardcore mode- dehydration, ammo has weight, stimpacks heal over time

-DIY additions to guns to increase damage, ammo, capacity, accuracy, rate of fire and more.

-Raul the Ghoul is the first companion character- with him in your party (which will now allow two or three members) you'll start to pick up clues that he's more than just a simple mechanic.

-New Vegas is based on 1950's casinos- fortified city.

-Your skills are used in conversation- i.e. high explosives skill can cause a prospector to let use his dynamite for a cause.

-Tabitha- cross-dressing schizophrenic super mutant.

-Solar power plant/orbital laser station ran by an idiot.

-VATS is back

This post actually gives me hope that its going to be a much better game than Fallout 3 and will have more of a Fallout 2 feel to it.
