So yeah, you weren't technically a vault dweller in Fallout 2, but I think we can get the meaning, it's an easy way of saying it.

You are wrong.

Fallout => The Vault Dweller. The character is meant to be THE vault dweller, and you don't really get many of those in the wasteland.

Fallout 2 => The Chosen One. You are given the choice, even, to have the PC identify himself as "the chosen one" on more than a few dialogs.

Also, upon mention of the Temple of Trials... is there a mod that removes it? I keep wishing to forget it exists.

Meh, it's better to just run out of there as quick as possible and steal the key or use speech. The XP you get from there isn't much in the long run anyway.
