Sonny, I Watched the Vault Bein' Built!
In the original Fallout you could not kill a BOS and take his armor because the armor would be in the same shape than the deceased.
Power armor is not just armor, it's a self contained suit, it has hydraulics, it is powered by microfusion cells, if you kill someone wearing a power armor the armor dies with him rendering the armor worthless. Even in Fallout Tactics (wich it's a spin off) they kept it the same way.
But of course since F3 on they slaughtered that theory because they had to include an annoying stupid repair system.
I remember a log on one of the paladins that went to the Ancient Order and died there. In there he described how he was severely injured, he could not move and the armor took irreparable damage, started loosing hydraulics and he even said how he feared the armor was starting to "die on him".
A power armor is a very complex piece of equipment indeed, that's why it is so hard to find a working one in the post apocalyptic world. The BOS takes care of these invaluable pieces of equipment in a religious way because they know that every one that breaks is irreplaceable.
Also, will post tomorrow I am afraid, just imagine Mark is walking to were Carib and Yas are looking around for signs of trouble.
I don't feel well enough for creative writing tonight, personal problems.
