Fallout Tactics- What's wrong with it-

I enjoyed tactics, except for a few things.

1) The missions took WAY TOO LONG to do. I admit when it comes to a tactical game like this I am very meticulous with the way I play it - every movement is done for a reason. Even so I still felt most of the maps seemed enormus, and took days at times to get through.

2) Beast lords were a bit silly, indeed.

3) I didn't dislike the huge vast amount of weaponry out there, but most of it was pretty much useless. Only 2 or 3 of each type of weapon (pistol, SMG, rifle, shotgun, asault rifle) were useful. I wasn't too fond of the "forced upgrading" feel I got from certain stages of the game (i.e. you have to use laser weaponry on the robots or else you're wasting ammo)

4) (edited in - I just remembered) The lack of co-op multiplayer for a game it would have worked in. I have a group of friends with whom I played Diablo II and whooped it all together (even though they hated my sick sick barbarian). I was hoping we could do that again with this - but nope. The only multiplayer was inherently combative, and didn't really look like anything special to me.

I didn't even know you keep the forums archived. What with the switch to php, I thought they were thrown out...

Are you the same Daemon Spawn who used to post before the switchover? If so, let Brio know.

Looking back at FOT overall as a tactical combat game, I think that the biggest flaw was that many of the missions were WAY too linear - just proceed through the map on a preset path killing everybody in the way. Complete with mystically unpickable and indestructible doors. Prime examples of this were the first mission and Springfield. The mission I remember most fondly was the one where almost the whole town was held captive. Plenty of alternative approaches, optional objectives and emphasis on stealth.

The world itself felt right and Fallout-y for the most part. Beastlords, mutans, reavers... I pretty much liked them all. Compared to the information we have about FO:BOS, the world in Tactics is a work of art.

What I liked about Fallout Tactics:
- The new Deathclaws (though I don't them speaking), they remind me of the excellent Warhammer Skaven Rat-Ogres.
- The graphics, including the impressive scenery (plane wrecks, towering factory chimneys, etc.).
- The fact that they tried to do something different with the Fallout universe.

Quite apart from the non-Fallout-y elements, my gripes are the following:
- Large and linear maps, they were boring and did not require any tactical thinking.
- Unbalanced looting, I think this is a recurrent problem in games; it's neither fun nor realistic to be able to carry 40 AK-47s, weapons that then sell for peanuts with the Quartermaster.
- Unbalanced weapons: the first three missions provide your team with enough hunting rifles, AK-47s and shotguns (plus ammo) to deal with all the missions until the ones with robots. Explosives and traps were useless.
- Embarassing dialogue that sounds like it has been written by a thirteen-year old.
- Fairly useless vehicles.
- Depending on your playing style, casualties either don't matter because there's always a better replacement available at the base anyway, or they prompt you to do a quick reload. I rarely suffered casualties from bad tactics, the reasons were more often either a) stealthed enemies, or b) trying to play a melee character or one of a race other than human.
- Rubbish multiplayer: drugs everywhere, no dogs, no fun.

What would have made the game better:
- Correcting the above plus the following:
- Creating your whole team from scratch (I did this with an Editor and it made the game slightly less tedious, though I've only slugged my way through to the "six generators" mission).
- Cooperative multiplayer (thus making real-time a more valuable proposition).
- Multiplayer campaigns.

pick, orginize, kill, sell, now swith order.
hmm, diablo 2???? huh????????
from the 1st mission i have to pick so many items i feel like a friggin' homeless(erp...no offense, if iwill turn out to be)

To tell you the truth, I actually enjoyed Tactics for the most part. It did, though, have HUGE glaring sores of badness in it (mainly that it wasn't F3, nor an RPG). A lot of them have already been discussed on this thread, but I think the thing that disappointed me the most was the ENDING. Its a freaking tactical ass kicking game, kinda like FOPOS, except Tactics had decent graphics for the time, and decent gameplay for an action game). you had to kill shit throughout the whole game, and then, at the END, when I was like," HOLY SHIT! THERE'S GONNA BE SOME HUUUUUGE AND POWERFUL GUY TO BEAT!! YAY FOR THE ENDBOSS!!!," i was brutally shot down. I don't want such a pathetic ending to an action oriented game. I kept trying to tell myself that the REAL end was just inaccessible due to some bug. But, that was the real end. I don't freakin care about someone's brain getting torn out and installed in a freaking computer. I wanted to KICK ASS. Man, that ending SUCKED.

Fallout Tactics/BOS simply wasnt fallout, and it had nothing to do with hairy deathclaw (which I liked), it didnt "look" like fallout, its storyline seemed to be rather, well, ignored until you hit the end (yes, they're looking for Vault 0, but it didnt feel like I was looking for it at alll), the RPG elements were a joke (yes, I can go back to a town, but theres no reason/benefit to, theres no in deep storyline stuff when you talk to people).

I severly disliked it, and stongly suggested to the guy who introduced fallout to me to stay away from it

Its a sad day where crap sell good, but good stuff cant sell. This isnt just with games, but is a sad reflection on the world at whole. Interplay made some good games, but it seems they've forgotten a lot, and forgetting more.

bottom line for me about tactics: i can never bring myself to play it again, because it will remind me too much of a fallout game, yet it won't give nearly 0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% of the satisfaction-and that's downer.

Rikus should be banned just for not knowing scientific notation, thus fucking up the formatting of the thread, even on a browser running in 1600x1200 resolution.

I thought it would be obvious that some dislike Fallout Tactics and Fallout: POS because.............................................

WE ALL WANT FUGGIN FALLOUT 3 NOT THE STUFF ABOVE

ok sorry, i meant it doesn't satisfy my as in 10(power(-30))!!
MUAHAHAHA
or it can satisfy me like the proportion between my size and an electron, or like my weight and the wieght of a photon, or like my brain and the brain of some people here!!(muhahah)-they all the same proportion.
i mean, if you know scientific notation.

I played Demo that included two missions and I could only complete one because the game was boring.
There is nothing tactical about battles either. I could finish those missions with one soldier instead of a group just as well, and it would be more interesting actually. Their qualifications (shadow, demolition man etc)don't really matter and you cannot really coordinate their actions in terms of sequences and stuff so there was simply no point in this game. Oh and the dialogs are so sheesy. It did not even feel like a wasteland, one of the demo levels had green grass and trees all over, which definitely looked little like fallout. Anyway, i dont like it even if it was not called fallout, its not thought out well, it looks like somebody could not express his idea well to the makers and the result is this half assed game

Gravedigging is when you take a topic, usually from a long time ago or from say...five or six pages back in the topic index, and bring it up to the surface without anything really new to add.
