Fallout Unlimited /Zero

Is it possible to open FO2 format maps? It would be a huge bous as modders could just import the original maps straight into Fallout Unlimited. Also it would make it possible to convert a mod from say FO2 engine to the unlimited engine.

Have the new critters been made in Poser? I take it the FO2 critters cant be imported into the engine? how about the SPRs from FOT as they have a lot more animations and face 8 orientations.

Also could you upload some higher quality screen shots to your site? I can make out many details as the images are very blurred.

Someone dropped these suggestions over at my forum. I doubt I could do any of these with the FO2 engine, so I thought I'd leave the suggestions here as things to think about for future versions of Fallout Unlimited. Mind you these aren't my opinions per se, but I'm passing them on.

Ability to hit enemies with your gun in a pinch. As you click through your single/burst/aimed options you would also have a "melee" option. this would let you make a quick and potentially dangerous attack without have to put your gun away, but it would also risk damaging your weapon.

Weapon maintainance(sp) is a must. In the harsh environment of the wasteland, your guns should deteriorate without care. You could use repair skill obviously, but it would just be jury rigging if your skill is too low, leading to the possibility of an even more critical failure when the shite hits the fan. Also, too much jury rigging should eventually make the weapon impossible to repair.

It should be nearly impossible to hit someone in the eyes. In fact, maybe hitting in the eyes should be a possible result of an aimed shot at the head. Rather than lots of kill shots, have more crippling/maiming effects like broken bones or arterial hits or things like that. With detailed graphics you oughta be able to tell which hand is really supporting the weapon an enemy is holding, and a hit to that limb could possibly make them drop it. Broken bones in legs make it harder to move, broken bones in arms make it damaging to shoot your weapon. You should be able to get a STERILIZED perk for taking a particularly nasty crit to the groin. You should get a battle scar perk if you get too many critical hits on you, or even just take a crpa load of damage over time. There should be levels to this perk as well from 1 (you have the look of a man who knows his way around a fight) to maybe 5 (you look like that guy from planescape). This perk should carry negative and positive effects for different people.

Different cars and different ways to get them.

Many, many more varieties of small gun, even if they are just cosmetic.

Ammo needs to be more scarce (but not unheard of)

Melee should still be a viable option for all but the diciest situations.

Ability to crouch and go prone are a must

You need to be able to move the cursor over environmental objects in combat and have an option on your menu to "use as cover" different object would provide obviousky different levels of cover. Moving and shooting from coverwould add another neat layer to the combat. Imagine crouching down behind a junked out car, inching towards Cassidy, who is unconcious and bleeding from an arterial wound, so you can give him first aid before he bleeds out.

Broken bones and other serious injuries should be a serious setback, but not a game ender. Using Doctor Shouldn't just instantly clear it up, though it might slow the damage or lessen the ill effects.

Specializations within skills.

Skills at low levels should still be useful for mundane tasks. A relatively low repair skill should still be able to fix virtually all simple machines.

Of those ideas, the features that I would like to personally see are using a gun in melee mode, and being able to crouch, or go prone.

Mapper2 allows saving in text mode, perhaps it would be much easyer to import data from mapper2 text maps than from the normal binaries.
