[Fallout1] Wait, no one noticed this? In over 16 years?!?!

Never used the pre made characters, didn't know you could choose Mia Wallace.

"That's when you know you've found somebody special. When you can just shut the fuck up for a minute and comfortably enjoy silence."

Maybe he could say to keep the vault safe it was encased deep under water. Kinda like the city in Bioshock.

Also the guy on the website says the cannon Fallout 1 character was Albert Cole? Is that true?

That should be a possible ending, LOL.
I imagine Ron Perlman "And with a very simple trick, the Vault Dweller managed to dip the mutants into the vast ocean, the tune in his pipe was one of a Vault 13".

I'm imagining a developer who thought:

"I'll put it "west" in here. I know it's supposed to be east, but I'll make it west. WEST.
I'll give them false hope that they can trick Lou that easily! I'll make them believe that there is another way to save Vault! It'll be mindblowing Ha!"

16 years later, someone got it.

I never noticed this before. Thanks for pointing it out.

Sort of, but not really. We know the Vault Dweller is male so Natalia is out and looking at the Vault Dweller's Memoirs the personality fits Albert a whole lot more than it does Max. The memoirs actually leave sex ambiguous but it is confirmed elsewhere. So if any of the 3 were canon it would be Albert. But he isn't really the canon PC, nobody is. Out of the 3 defaults sure but who the Vault Dweller was is left mostly ambiguous. So it can be your character that was the Vault Dweller.

The identity of The Vault Dweller is one of the most nuclear discussions between Fallout Historians.

Atomkilla, I'd fap furiously to your post if I could. Why is it not allowed in certain forums?

Wasn't Mariposa moved mid-game, like Necropolis?
I had no idea of none of those changes.
Yeah @korindabar why no faps?

And @Lexx I saw a map yesterday with a few locations in weird places like necropolis was west of the Brotherhood. Do you remember where you read about that?

Well, Necropolis for example is based on Bakersfield- but Bakersfield is not where Necropolis is in Fo1. There might as well be something about it in the Fallout bible. I remember that some developers commented it at one point in time.

I do remember one of the Fallout designers, Brian Freyermuth, had mentioned it in interview:

Q: What specifically inspired Fallout for you? What were the biggest influences?

A: The game Wasteland was my number one inspiration. I loved the feel of that game. The raiders came directly from Mad Max, while the locations themselves came from good old Southern California. A lot of times we would look at a map and say, I want Barstow in the game. Oh, lets make it Necropolis!

Fun Fact, there's also a cut character named Barstow.

That map looks like a map which has Fallout 1 and 2 and Van Buren combined.

Maybe it was a concept? Something the developers could return to, in making dialogues, etc?

(Of course the question I want to ask is, Are you (Sduibek) going to restore those in FIXT some day?)

I sure hope not.

Albert was a rubbish character to play as.

I think really it's just saying out of the pre-selected characters, Albert is the most "Canon" and I think it's likely the canon Vault Dwellers isn't any of the premade characters.

Plus, it being Albert doesn't make sense (Albert is a non-combat focused character and it is implied the Vault Dweller fought with the Master and Blasted his way through Mariposa.)

Yeah, but you could modify Albert throughout the game, as well as any other character, to make him a good combatant.

It was never said that Albert is the Vault Dweller, but judging by all promo content (check my avatar for example), loading screens and others, Albert comes closest to what Vault Dweller seems to be.

Of course, all that could be saying just nothing, as art for promotion wasn't always (more likely, ever) in the line of canon (which wasn't even an existing thing while the game was still in gestation), nor is the visual outlook the definition of any character (after all, Fallout had only one PC model per sex, so do the math).
And since I'm mentioning the game model, it should be said that he seems more like a cross between Albert/Max than anything else.
The female model is way more suitable for the pre-made character, but again, that says nothing.

Vault Dweller is whoever you/we want to be. It seems he is male, most likely, but even that isn't 100% sure and is intentionally left vague, which makes it one of the biggest jewels and most important aspects of the whole Fallout lore.
