Fallout2, crash entering Vault City's Vault

Have been playing for about 20 hours or so and am trying to get in to vault city's vault to get the optimization info for Gecko's reactor and as i enter, the screen goes dark and the rotating globe pops up....and then i hear the 'windows error' stopping sound and i have to ctrl-alt-delete to force down Fallout. Thoughts? Im running 1.02 with the large installation on windows XP prof. SP2....

oh and i REALLY dont want to lose my save games!

thats all i can think of..

when the screen goes dark to switch areas, the mouse/rotating globe-loading animation pops up and twirls for a second before the entire screen goes dark and i hear the windows critical stop sound.

This is the US version of the game, if that helps.

What other information can i provide?

So it has nothing to do with this, then? Apart from that, you could search for "too many items bug" but it seems doubtful.

Well, it could be a graphical error caused by your graphic card, or the like, so we'll need your computer specks.

Also, make sure you're not running any background programs that can clash with Fallout.

While i did download Kilap's patch, i hadnt installed i yet (because i read the readme in regards to the save games). The patch i have is the offical 1.02, i believe.
