Fallout's Assault Rifle (split from Tactics mod thread)

I don't see the resemblance.

The receiver looks kind of like an AK with a PK style butt.

However its missing the typical upper gas piston on top of the barrel which is present in most Kalashnikov designs.

im not sure if this has merit to the thread but when the AK-47 was first introduced into the soviet army it existence was to be kept as secret as possible soldiers used to train to never leave an empty shell behind. the Ak didn't see mass reproducing until a much later date. as the civilized world didn't last much past the 50s it makes sense to not see any aks because they were not yet mass produced when the world went apeshit.

Sure the russian army had them when the world blew up, but not many others. intercontinental travel is almost "impossible" in the fallout world so i have a hard seeing how any number of aks would reach america after the war.

What? The timeline in the fallout bible says resource wars began in 2052 and the great war started in 2077.

your right........what i meant to say is that when the world ended the geoplolitical state wasnt much past our 50s timeline even though the game timeline was much later.

So.... AKs would have been tried in the 50's regardless of how secret they were kept; considering how many AK clones appeared during that time in many nations, china for instance had its type-56 rifles which were a direct copy of the AK.

Besides, US soldiers would have been trained to fire these weapons; many captured soviet weapons were used by US troops in the Korean and Vietnam wars, many of these weapons would have found their way home.

Me thinks that AKs can indeed be in Fallout, as the frontline was for quite some time was at Anchorange, laska, and certainly Chinese weapons were captured by the US, maybe even in great quantities, and transferred to to military bases across the US to give the troopers a chance to see, test and learn about the weapons of the enemy and how to use them in the event when they run out-of-ammo.

Also, when the riots in the US and Canada broke out the rioters _must_ have aqcuired arms, as T-51s were employed to take care of this 'problem'. Also, the rebels and rioters might have acquired some upper-class equipment as we see in the Fallout intro, where a Canadian Rebel is wearing a Combat Armor (see the helmet on the ground?). If he has it, why the rioters wouldnt?
