Fan Fallout 3 - Looking for a few good people

Hello everyone,

As I mentioned before in the topic " Who would participate in making a fan-made FO3?" I for one would be very willing to set up a fan project to make a fan based Fallout 3.

Although Ineptplay has told us that Fallout 3 might be brought back as an outsider project, the company's financial status makes it clear that in time the project would be cancelled again due to lack of funding, leaving us fans with a lot of anticipation but no game.

I am now looking for several skilled people who are willing to work in their spare time on a project such as this. From the other topic I understood that some fans would like to see a new Fallout title with a new engine, perhaps custom made.

If there are people with knowledge and skill on this subject, would they please make contact with me through PM.

Help in the following areas are needed:

Design
Coding?
Script
Map Making
Music?

And perhaps other areas I am currently not aware of.

Hope to hear from people soon.

Moved to the Project Announcement forum. Also it might be a good idea to consolidate resources with other people who have posted similar ideas in other threads?

Hi everyone,

Sorry about the quadruple posting of this topic (I blame the computer I used at the time for this).

Yeah, I have considered the Ianout Engine also (I have had contact with the project leader) but I get the impression that most people want an engine that would make a game such as FO3 something totally new instead of just a modification of the existing engines.

I would love to see the game use an engine with some of the same capabilities that were mentioned for the one the official Fallout 3 games to use.

Absolutely right :D

If you want a new engine then Ian-Out would probably be a good place to start
Yeah, I got contact with sztupy, the ianout coder, too. I converted the fallout2 items to xml so that they can be used in ianout. At the moment sztupy seems very busy. :(

I try to get contact with teamX to get some help with the fallout2 engine to make some concepts for future ianout releases :)

If your seroius about starting a new mod team, then ask one of the admins to post it in the news section to get some recruits, also contact other sites like DAC aswell. The most important thing in making a mod is having a team of reliable people, dont worry too much about their skill set, most people will be willing to learn new things to help make it.
Though Ian-Out is not a moded Fallout engine it is a completely new engine designed to look like fallout (I think). It does handle high resolutions as well, but was made so it could use fallout graphics. Idealy you want to be able to use the graphics from all the existing Fallout PC games, including FOT. If you have to make a completely new batch of critters it will take too long. Unless you can find a good team of 3D artists

Also though I'm not sure but I think all the Fallout mods should not overlap in th dates, eg if MR was happening in the same time as FMF3 but I suppose if it's in a different area i won't matter so much. Maybe a quote or two about whatys happening South/North etc.

Then again I'm just blabing on arn't I.

Let me put it this way:

You have nothing. Why would someone want to join you?

There's obviously heaps of aspiring "designers" and "storytellers" with what, zero game development experience? But there are no programmers, and from what I could gather, you are not a programmer either, at least not strong enough to write your own game from scratch. In any case, you don't have what it takes to lead a software development project. So what are you hoping for? Enthusiastic idiots with short attention spans? Newcomers who didn't see one game tank after another? Do you expect the people you want to lead to solve all problems for you?

If you want VALUABLE people to be interested in your game, you better have something to show up-front. That's how it works.

It's tough to see something through. It's like happiness, you have to work at it, it doesn't just happen.
Something makes me go back everyday to the Mutants Rising forum. Could it be the great bunch of guys over there? Maybe. More likely its the feeling that 'I' got off my ass and 'we' are doing something. Anyone can be a critic, but can anyone stay with something til it's through? I've only been on the team since March and already several people have drifted off, for various reasons, good and bad, but there is a core there who log in every day. Until you try you will never know. I say go for it, or check us out at MR.
Or sit there and wonder what you might have done.

Hello APTYP

Thanks for the warm pat on the back.

I admit that I am no programmer, thats why I am looking for people that do have the skills and are willing to join. I am also doing this as I want to get into the gaming business, getting some experience on how it feels like to actually be part of a team that makes a game.

And at the second time I also want to try to make a third part of one of my favorite game series.

In your opinion I'm another one of those yahoos who excitedly screams " I am going to make a fan based Fallout game" but doesn't deliver the work he or shen promised? Well thats fine with me, I do not really give a care of what you think about me.

Perhaps I might not be ale to make this true, but I sure as hell am going to try, have a lot of fun during it, and perhaps learn a thing or two about game designing.

Hi Wild_qwerty

Thanks for the facts and info about Ianout. I wasn't aware of the fact that the engine now also could support FOT graphics. And yes, I agree that it would require a lot of work to make whole new graphics.

I already took an interest in the Ianout engine earlier, but when I read that some other posters wanted to see a new graphic engine for a Fallout game, I thought it couldn't hurt if I asked around if someone knew a good 3D engine or is capable of making one.

Hello King of Creation

Great to hear from you and welcome onboard. Please contact me through PM and I will send you my Email adres.

Then learn a valuable skill and join a modding project. And what CAN you do, anyway?

Well thats fine with me, I do not really give a care of what you think about me.

That's because I care about you and the fools who will join you. The only idea you're gonna get out of your experience is that "internet game development is doomed", which is not true.

Perhaps I might not be ale to make this true, but I sure as hell am going to try, have a lot of fun during it, and perhaps learn a thing or two about game designing.

There are better ways to do this other than starting your own game project.

And if you still want to do it, don't just blindly follow what these armchair designers suggest. Their advices might be useful to professional game developers, but the effort it will take to implement some of the features they want to see can kill an amateur project.

Oh, and yet another positive note from APTYP, how else does someone learn the skills to carry out this this if thet dont actually give it a try

Osmosis only works if you're not totally clueless about what you're about to do. Would you climb a rock without at least some training first?

I'm with APTYP on this. At this stage, where Fallout really doesn't have the pull it once had, there are few people interested in modding. It would be entirely different if Fallout was a game that had just come out and interest was very high. You really only have two choices; create a mod all by yourself or join a team that is wholeheartedly working on a project. Starting something new now is like trying to build a castle out of a cloud.

I can point you in the direction of many mod projects or even unrelated new PA game projects. There even have been many incredible projects like Static and Project Salus which showed lots of promise and got far before they tanked for various reasons. If you are really interested in making a fan made Fallout then help the current projects see daylight.
